All riiiiiight. Being from the Midwest and knowing little about new CU head coach Dan Hawkins, I considered him just another in the line of anonymous, boring Big 12 coaches. But perhaps I underestimated the man's entertainment value. Hawkins' signing day press conference yesterday contained a very reasonable expression of disappointment at a parent complaining about the lack of free time his players have: Hawkins
WOOOO GO PLAY INTRAMURALS!

Amen Brother, Wooo.... Where do we sign up??
Good for him, its about time the spoiled parents were
told off. Houston Nutt needs to run an ad in the USAToday telling some parents to SHUT UP or move their kid..

Danny Boy Hawkins is all hat, no cattle.
It's a reasonable question. Hawkins answer isn't. These are student athletes, right, Danny? Right?
Apparently not to him. This specialization year-round bullshit by Program climbers like Hawkins is typical. His answer isn't impressive, and his emotions way out of whack.
Unlike Hawkins, these kids aren't being paid. Unlike Hawkins, these kids can't financially parlay CU's success on the field into better jobs, more cash--unless they make it in the NFL. And the odds of that happening are too high to be considered a viable job opportunity.
On any other planet, in any other country, in any other market, Hawkins would be selling copiers door to door. He's all cornfed.

I agree with Dan's attitude, and am glad to see that someone is operating in the real world. I would like
to remind those who disagree with what he says that these kids are getting paid. A college scholarship is a major payment for their efforts and almost certainly a sound footing for whatever endeavors the players pursue in the future.

Everybody needs to get a clue - Dan Hawkins is only a good football coach in his own mind and has an agent telling him how to "market" himself. Most people in Boise knows that Chris Peterson - Dan's former assistant and his successor at Boise State - was the reason Dan won. Peterson won the Fiesta Bowl and nobody around here was saying - thanks, Dan (OK, maybe the very gracious Peterson). Dan spent most of his time while in Boise developing his egotistical personality and getting himself placed in commercials (he a horrible spokesperson) that we had to suffer through. Those of us that had to work with him on a day to day basis were so thrilled when Colorado
"took him away." He was a first-class a-hole - and, everybody knew he was not a first-class football coach. Good luck Colorado. You need to get him a great assistant if you want him to win. Othewise, you are going to have a coach who should be doing reality TV.

"cornfed" work for your future, it's only 4 years and then you get a paycheck, that pie in the sky..How much are you selling those copiers for anyway, JB?

Why oh why did we pass on Butch Davis!!!!!!!!!! What this program needed was a big time coach, not a coach from Boise State. Butch put together a top 20 recruiting class at NC, imagine what he could have done here!

At least he is finally realizing that this is the Big 12 and not the WAC anymore: 'I'm used to scoring 50-60 points a game, this is tough'. No joke Hawk, this is the Big 12...show me some results QUICK! Losing to a 1AA school, CSU (yes, they are still the WAC) and giving Baylor their FIRST EVER Big 12 road win is not acceptable!!!!

Okay, granted Mr.Hawkins made a great joke, but don't misconstrue the facts of what blew up in Arkansas. Houston the Nutt, conned - lied - misused his authority to help himself not get fired. Houston was on the hotseat, and needed a plan to save his job, so he did what most coaches do, he brought in a big name recruit!!! Now it did come with stipulations, first he had to sign the recruits high school coach, which he did, but he lied and told the coach they would be progressing into the Spread "O", which we all know by now they didn't. Secondly, with the help of the Malzaln they landed the top QB / top 3 WR / top 10 TE, which all coincedentally all played high school ball for Malzaln. The drama came when Mustain at 8-0 was benched in favor of a guy who went 2-4 in his starts, that didn't make sense to most, and the situation got to a fever pitch!!! Now gentlemen ask yourself, do you really blame any of the kids or parents for being lied to just to help a weak coach keep his million dollar check??? Houston brought this all upon himself, all I can say is he's very lucky to have McFadden, but the fact is if it weren't for the so-called spoiled brat, UArk wouldn't have even been the SEC West Champ...take your vote Mustain's 8-0 or Dick's 2-4??? And if any of you guys say Dick, then your fooling yourself, just like Houston the Nutt did after pulling the Freshman...Next year UArk will have to pull teeth to make it to .500!!!

Last time I checked, CU will pay for this young man's education. If the requirement is to be there 11 months out of the year, then so be it. It sounds as if the poor work ethic being raised within our youth is coming to a head.

I love the attitude and work ethic Hawkins has. While his comments seem a bit over the top, hard work at the college level is usually a prerequisite for entry into the pros. I have no problem with his pushing players to excel. Go Hokies!

In all honesty players make a decision to play. If they whine to mom and dad and they want to helicoptor in to try and take care of that's their business. All if shows me is that the kid is weak and too scared to speak his mind. I am telling you from experience that all parents attempt to be involved in some capacity. If I were Hawkins I would trace the letter and kick the kid off the team. Then I would find a way to beat a 1AA opponent in my first game next year.

Hey JB: you wouldn't be the parent that wrote the letter to Hawkins, would you? :)
Do you really think these "kids" need vacation? Get ready for life boys. I am sorry you don't see that these "kids" are playing Division I football for thousands of dollars in scholarship money, etc. It's a job whether you like it or not. If it's too tough, get out. And to insinuate that these "kids" won't be successful unless they make it to the NFL is crazy, ask J.C. Watts or hundreds of other collegiate athletes who couldn't make it in the PRO's.
If he had a few less "kids" concerned about vacation time and parents who stood up for their "kids", maybe he could have won more than 2 games this year. Maybe he's cornfed, but it's a heckuva lot better than the bottle fed "boys" your sticking up for.

hey # 6 Jimmy Brancato, Not being paid? last time I checked a college education was worth about $100,000 plus the earning potential a college degree offers. These players are on scholarship. Shut your pie hole! They are there to:
1. play football
2. earn a degree in that order. Deal with it!

Colorado needs a coach to remind people that it is a Div. 1 program. It may be a sorry-ass Div. 1 program that loses money every year, but part of that is the couldn't-care-less attitude of people in Boulder. Maybe he'll get people fired up again.
