Live From Vegas: Tickets, Groupies, And Player Sightings

The eagle has landed, I'm coming to you live from my room at the Hard Rock in Vegas. The town is definitely NBA crazy right now, everyone is buzzing about the weekend's events. I arrived at around 1PM at the Hard Rock, but my room wasn't ready so I decided to track down the person that I needed to see to pick up my ticket for tomorrow night. She was at Mandalay Bay, and after four plus hours in the car today I decided to cab it over there. I'm telling you this for a reason, which will be revealed shortly.

It was immediately obvious that Mandalay Bay is THE place to be to see and be seen this weekend. While I was trading cell phone calls trying to arrange a meet for my ticket drop, I was walking toward the convention center where the Jam Session is being held. I saw no less than 157 groupied-up girls, all dressed like *ahem* self-employed models at 230 in the afternoon. The odds of an NBA player knocking someone up this weekend are officially off the board.

I did manage to see some NBA players rolling around at Mandalay, most were heading to or from the Jam Session. Reggie Miller, Chris Mullin, Daryl Dawkins, Damon Jones, and Chauncey Billups were all in the house. Chauncey was working an autograph session that was set up, the rest were just walking through. Once I grabbed my Saturday night ticket (is that thing SWEET or what?), I was ready to head back to the Rock to check in.

Here's where the information that I was traveling by taxi becomes relevant. My return cab ride from the Mandalay Bay was hosted by a racist old lady driver, who proceeded to go on a 10-minute rant about how "there are two types of people that don't tip: colored people and Mexicans." Yikes. I have no idea why she decided to share these effed-up opinions with me, but I can tell you that my fare was $11.20, and I gave her that exact amount with no tip. Now she can add white people to her list of non-tippers.

One other celebrity sighting to report. When I got back to the Hard Rock I saw that midget little person that's in those Jackass movies. Surprisingly, he seems smaller in person.

Here are the rest of my weekend plans, I'll check in again later tonight.
