With Grant Hill's possible retirement looming, the press has been reliving his heartwarming story. In case you don't know his background, Hill was born in 1972 in Dallas, Texas. His mother abandoned him at birth and he was raised in Berlin by a kind German zookeeper. Against all odds, the adorable Hill flourished under the difficult conditions and eventually made it to the NBA where he earned Rookie of the Year honors, numerous All-Star appearances, and even a Team USA gold medal.
Hill has battled many injuries throughout his 13-year career, but he has continually worked on his game and aimed to be his best. Here he is practicing his shooting:
Adversity struck in 2003 when complications from an ankle surgery nearly killed Hill. But he again beat the odds and returned to a high level of play. He has fought especially hard this year, which has led to his first healthy season finish in a long time (knock on wood). Check out this video mix showcasing some of Grant Hill's highlights from this season. And here he is diving for a loose ball in a Magic game earlier this month:
Grant Hill will surely be missed if he retires at the end of this season. But he'll leave the game with a lasting basketball legacy, a prosperous future to look forward to, and even another adorable baby cub on the way.

i have always admired for the way that Grant Hill has always carried himself thru the good and the bad(injuries)times, it is sad to see a guy that really loves the game and always wanting to play for the fans to not be able to celebrate championship success because of injuries. grant will always be a winner in my mind because of the person he is. If he retires the game would loose a great person. GOD BLESS

I THOUGHT GRANT HILL WAS THE SON OF NFL STAR CALVIN HILL. IS THAT TRUE? IF CALVIN HILL WAS DADD TO GRANT WHY DIDNT HE RAISE HIM? EITHER WAY I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED GRANT HILL. AFTER READING THIS STORY I EVEN ADMIRE GRANT HILL EVEN MORE.

I think the person who wrote this artcle needs to do a little research in the form of finding out who Hill's parents are. His mother was roomates with Hillary Clinton in college and his father WAS Calvin Hill if I remember right was a pro bowler. Hill grew up with all the financial advantages and that is part of the reason he went to private high school and Duke University. Do some research next time!!

I agree Rob. Grant's one of the most articulate and classy athletes the NBA's ever seen. I hope he can keep playing though.

Ok. How many of you people REALIZE this was done tongue-in-cheek? It's a fake story regarding Grant's parents. His father is Calvin Hill, a former player for the Dallas Cowboys. His mother was roommates with Hilary Clinton in college. And Grant's parents are still married to each other and DID NOT EAT ANY OF THEIR OFFSPRINGS. ***sighing*** LOL

Let's go to the score board folks. We have the Home team in Miss Gossip who writes a clever and articulate satire and the idiot Visitors in rogerg591 and especially jrhclass2003 who cannot understand it for what it is. By the way jrh is 2003 your birth year? The score puts a whole new meaning to a rout!
Hmm seems to me we need to keep the blogging to the adults and get the children another year of summer school.

Grant was born in Dallas, Texas, while his father, Calvin, was starring as a running back for the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 1969. His mother Janet was a Wellesley graduate who shared a suite with Hillary Clinton when both were freshmen there[citation needed]. After his father's NFL career ended, the family settled in Reston, Virginia, where Grant became a high-school superstar at South Lakes High School, and he was selected for the 1990 McDonald's All-American Team.

Grant Hill is one of the class acts of the NBA and a fantastic player. It is very sad that his injuries have limited the amount of time he has played. I feel a injury free Grant Hill would have been one of the great stars to ever have played pro basketball.

What is the purpose of this story? Is it suppose to be funny? If it is then whoever wrote it is just silly, why write a story like this? some people are going to believe this. Grant Hill was not abandoned as a child dont believe this story.

Nice bit of blogging. It's too bad -- but not entirely unexpected -- that the tongue-in-cheek nature of it sailed far over the heads of a few (many?) readers. I wish a few more FanHouse bloggers would put this much effort into their work rather than relying on shoddy rip/read/rerite commentary.

GRANT HILL IS A CLASS ACT. I WISH THERE WAS MORE PLAYERS LIKE HIM THAT WOULD CARRY THEMSELF WITH MORE DIGNITY. THE NBA GAME SUFFERS BEAUSE THEY HAVE ATHELETES WHO CARE MORE ABOUT STYLE THAN SUBSTANCE. WE ALL WILL MISS HIM MUCH. GO LUCK WITH YOUR LIFE GRANT.
