Manager Charlie Manuel's frustration was evident after the game. The normally mild-mannered manager challenged a radio talk-show host to a fight. Manuel had to be restrained by hitting coach Milt Thompson at one point.Apparently, the radio talk-show host was WIP's Howard Eskin, which explains how a "normally mild-mannered manager" is suddenly going all Joey Crawford on someone ... as Eskin has accused the Phillies of being run like a department store, and he isn't known as one of the more docile Philadelphia sports radio personalities. An account of Manuel's run in with Eskin after an 8-1 loss to the Mets on Tuesday comes from The 700 level:
"We're going to win," Manuel could be heard yelling in his office.
Eskin reportedly asked a number of legit questions but followed them up with more provoking, wise ass type questions. When he asked a question along the lines of, "Don't you think it would help your players if they saw you fired up a bit more?" and Manuel responded with something like, "I think they see me fired up a lot more than you think. You can stop by my office later and I'll show you." After the press conference, Eskin went to his office and Manuel reportedly challenged him to a fight and Milt Thompson had to restrain the coach.If Crawford vs. Tim Duncan needed an undercard, I think we've got one now. All we need is Don King to promote this and we have an event. Let's get ready to rumble ... Philadelphia style!

Since when is the job of sports reporter a protected class. They act like a fool, call people out and because they write or broadcast trash they think they are untouchable. Don't begin to tell someone how to do the job until you've done the job yourself. CHARLIE MANUEL IS A GREAT PERSON. HE HAS TAKEN ALOT OF CRAP AND NEGATIVE COMMENTS FORM HOWARD ( THE JERK) ESKIN, FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS NOW. CHARLIE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO GET ANGRY AT HIS PRESS CONFERENCE. I COMMEND CHARLIE FOR PUTTING THAT PUTZ IN HIS PLACE.
ESKIN HAS PROBLEMS WITH EVERYONE. WHEN I THINK OF HIM, I THINK OF LOW LIFE BLOOD SUCKER. HE NEVER HAS ANY INTENTIONS OF REPORTING ON A PARTICULAR SPORT, JUST TO BASH THE TEAMS WHO PLAY THEM.

Everyone knows Erskin is a donkey! Did you see the interview where he was trying to make himself out to be an innocent bystander in this mess. I listen to him every now and then and all he does is blast any sports person he can. Isn't there anyway he can be stopped from entering the locker room? Hasn't he been suspended from broadcasting not too long ago? Charlie should have busted him in the mouth!

I'm not an Eskin fan but to me with this incident he's like the groundhog subjecting us loyal fans to several more months of Manuel's ineptitude. The Phillies brass certainly won't abdicate to the press and this confrontation only serves to delay Charlie's termination. Also any thoughts that Manuel was looking for a way to spark his team doesn't make sense. Manual just isn't that clever or manipulative. He is probably the most ineffective manager in all of baseball.
