Nebraska's starting wide receiver Maurice Purify was arrested Saturday night in Lincoln. According to the Lincoln Police Department, Purify was arrested on two counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest.Lincoln television channel KOLN/KGIN 10/11 reports that Purify assaulted a doorman of a bar after the doorman had denied Purify and an acquaintance admittance into the bar.
"Police say Purify threw a punch at the man. Police also say Purify also assaulted the man's girlfriend when she intervened. When police arrived, they say Purify didn't comply with their orders. Purify was taken to jail and was let out on bond early Sunday afternoon."Purify led Nebraska with 630 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2006.
Bill Callahan and the athletic department have yet to comment on the situation. This is the second unfortunate incident for Nebraska during this off-season. In March, Sam Keller was cited for disturbing the peace after an argument over a parking spot.
Update - Bill Callahan has now issued a statement.
"I'm very concerned about this current situation. I am still in the process of gathering all the facts. I will determine the appropriate consequences when due process has transpired. Until such time, I will have no further comment regarding the situation."

Good news! Sounds like a return to the mid 90s when Huskers were getting arrested and we were dominating college football. Go Big Red!!

Wow, Sgt. I hope that comment was meant to be sarcastic, a player getting arrested is never a good thing. And, Lou, I'm sure there are plenty of out of control uneducated white football players doing stupid things as well, they just don't do it where they'll get caught. As for Purify, let's hope that he learns from this and doesn't turn into another Maurice Clarett.

Yep, another case of 'roid rage, but 'roid have been berry, berry good to us a Nubraska. By the way, I have the syringe hidden in my safe and local law enforcement authorities assure me they will never do anything to hurt Nubraska football. Oh, and never fear the NCAA, because they have promised to always turn a blind eye to anything we do.

james,
the media is getting the story wrong...the doorman denied entrance to purify's acquaintance because the kid was using a fake id...there was no previous encounter between the two.

WOW FootballGal,
Thanks for degrading the discussion and painting white players who do stupid things as smarter than non-white players who do stupid things, as you suggest the non-white players aren't even clever enough to know how to conceal what they've done. Your attempt at racial smack has backfired. Let's hope you learn to think before you type.

Send Purify back to Cali where he can work at Burger King, provided he doesn't get in an altercation over a Whopper with cheese.I'm tired of reading these police blotters, and ready for the Huskers to start contending again. And nobody needs to remind me about Lawrence Phillips, so don't bother. GO BIG RED!!

The skers top three offensive players have all had issues, ol bill is trying anything to get back on top.More and more juco kids and kids other schools wont touch.Keller is obviously a bad apple if his own teammates didnt want him at asu. But desparate Callahan greated him with open arms.I love it things have changed in husker land.Just like Lucky nothing will happen and we will get half the information. If he isn't kicked off the team it just goes to show how desparate they are. They can no longer get the top student athletes so they get thugs. GO BUFFS

Ha Ha juco losers or crimehuskers whatever you prefer. Nice to see your turn. Please don't throw a cup at me. They can't beat texas or usc so they bully women by throwing cups at them or punching them in the face. He will get suspended for one game against whatever Div. 1 aa team.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when Nebraska was concerned what KSU and Mizzou fans said about them. Or even Colorado for that matter. The fact is, you guys need to worry about OU and Texas if you really consider yourselves elite, which obviously you don't anymore. Oh, and nice attempt to "not get blown out" by USC last year. Hey, you only lost by 18. Callahan destroyed the Raiders, and for some reason you guys hired him thinking he would ressurect the program that Solich let slip. Well he's bringing it further down with his juco transfers and supposed "no tolerance" policy that seems to be defined as 5 strikes and then no tolerance. He must be learning from the Dennis Erickson book of recruiting/discipline, except at least Erickson fields winning football teams with his thugs. Enjoy your mediocrity!

Okay, first off, what Purify did or didn't do isn't known yet at this time, so determining how big of a punishment Purify needs is kind of hard to do with the limited information, but the main problem appears to be the fact that Purify resisted arrest when police showed up. We'll see how this ends up, but to automatically put Purify in the same class as Lawrence Phillips or whoever else is kind of jumping the gun a little bit, wouldn't you say? Second, to the guy saying that Purify will probably get suspended for Nebraska's game against a 1-AA opponent this year, what game is that? Against Nevada (8 wins in '06) to open the season? At Wake Forest (11 wins & Orange Bowl berth) in week 2? Against USC (11 wins & Rose Bowl win) in week 3? Against Ball State (only 5 wins, but took Michigan to the wire late in the season, losing at UM by 8)? So to you, try learning about what the hell you're talking about before you make another ill-advised bash at NU. Third, to the people saying that Nebraska isn't recruiting like they used to, have you looked at the last few year's recruiting classes? When you combine the 2005 through 2007 recruiting classes, Nebraska had 3 5-stars and 26 4-stars. Maurice Purify, who one person labeled as a "JUCO regect" (I'm assuming you meant reject, Mr. Webster's), was a 4-star coming out of City College of San Francisco and was the 17th best JUCO prospect in his class. Does that sound like a reject, or as you would put it, regect, to you? Not quite. Hell, out of Nebraska's 7 commitments thus far for the 2008 class, 4 are a part of Rivals' top 100 players list. Not too shabby for a program that you've all labeled as mediocre. Fourth, as far as Sam Keller goes, bash how he left ASU all you want, but when you're a proven senior and one day in fall camp were promised by the head coach the starting QB job, and the next day he says he's giving it to some other guy (Rudy Carpenter in this case), you'd be a little upset as well. Keller's at Nebraska now and should be a great fit for our offense, but the thing that I think will make him do even better is Joe Ganz. Ganz had a good spring as well and is nipping at Keller's heels, and I'm sure Keller isn't wanting to lose another QB battle. And oh yeah, how well did Arizona State do without Keller under center? A 7-6 season in which ASU fans were expressing their displeasure in Carpenter at QB by mid-October and a season that led to the firing of head coach Dirk Koetter. Do you think that Koetter might regret his QB decision just a little now? So, to all of you who just like throwing out bashes at Nebraska players, coaches, or the program in general (most of you without any real idea of what you're talking about), think about what you're saying and maybe do a little something called research if you don't know about something before you actually say it and make yourself look like an ass in the process. Also, I'd just like to say congrats to Colorado on their 62-36 victory over Nebraska 5 years, 5 months, and 24 days ago, or wait, was it yesterday, because that sure is how CU fans act. Good luck building upon your 2 wins in '06.
P.S. - Correct me if I'm wrong, but 30-3 (what Nebraska beat you by in '05) is a 27-point differential, while 62-36 (what CU beat NU by in '01) is a 26-point differential. Whoops, I guess no matter how good CU does, NU will always find a way to one-up them. Too bad for you guys that Dan Hawkins' statement that the worst days as a Buff (10 straight losses, 2-10, loss to Baylor at home, etc.) are better than the best days as a Husker (5 national championships, 31 Big 8/Big 12 championships, one of four programs with 800 wins, 44 bowl appearances, approaching 300 consecutive sellouts at home, etc.) isn't true.

Sweet sell outs, thats because there isn't shit to do in that god forsaken cornfield. The blue hairs and grossly obese slobs that fill that stadium are always telling people to sit down, real rockin crowd, losers. The worst day in colorado will always be better than the best day in a cornfield. deal with it and your national titles are a thing of the past, without 500 cornfead walk-ons and unlimited scholorships you will be lucky to be top 10. Good luck with those commitment rankings you have to be good at somethig, Oh yeah remember that sweet #1 ranked class of recruits did that get you close to a national title? You were lucky to win the north, with modern day rules colorado has as many big 12 and north titles. Educate yourself, scholorships are now limited. Its over, so face it nobody gives a rats ass about that lame ass state. But we have a zoo and college world series big deal you never see any college baseball on espn.

Dont forget who was scared to go to houston and backed out to play div.1 aa Maine.Count your home games versus road games over the past 20 yearsand do the same for cu and lets hear about your cosecutive winning seasons and bowl appearences jerk off.In 08 you have 5 straight home games and 8 home games and 4 road games, that would make it easy to have a winning season.Who else has 5 straight home games and is scared to go on the road in non conference? 5 national titles aint shit during the steroid era Notre Dame has 13 USC has 11,you only have 4 more than cu and 8 less than ND.Nebraska uses smoke and mirrors to make the blue hairs think they are an elite program.Since the rule changes on scholarships witch you had no idea about, CU has been just as successfull with always one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The huskers have a record you forgot, playing the most div. 1aa teams over the last 20 years. Didnt think we knew that did you, you do your research and i dont think we will hear from you again. PS. id rather get beat by baylor than be scared of powerhouse houston

I know mo purify personally..the kid wouldn't know how to add 2+2. He could honestly be the dumbest kid I have ever tried to hold a conversation with. He is spaced off and doesnt even speak English.. All he talks about is himself and "banging" all these girls. He is failing in school right now and the coaches basically do everything in their power for him to finish this year out. If he does go to the NFL, he will be nothing more than a randy moss. ME ME ME ME ME... if the NFL would realize anything, they would send him back to cali and work him in the back of McDonalds because he cant speak english. Dont think I am just some bullshitter either..i have talked to this kid many of times, he is good friends with my best friend. Great player, but a headcase. get rid of him or punish the sin out of him already.
