I don't know if Warren Sapp has gone to Weight Watchers, switched to Diet Coke or replaced potato chips with celery sticks as his afternoon snack, but whatever he's doing, it's working.Tucked into the end of a Contra Costa Times report on the Raiders' minicamp is this little nugget:
Sapp lost considerable weight within the past four months, though he refused to divulge just how much. Kiffin said Sapp dropped 49 pounds, from 334 to 285.Losing that kind of bodyweight shows a commitment to conditioning in the off-season that should help lengthen the 34-year-old Sapp's career. But a drop of 49 pounds is going to have a huge impact on the way Sapp plays, and I'm not totally convinced that it will have a positive impact. He should be quicker at 285 than he was at 334, but he'll also be easier to block in short-yardage situations. Sapp is a healthier person now than he was a few months ago, but I'll believe he's a better player when I see it.

Sapp is an athlete, in addition to a talented footballer, and it may take some adjustment but the commitment to his career and to the Raiders' emerging defense is excellent news. He was quick at 330. Imagine he and Burgess bursting through! Who do you double team??? Good news for the Raiders.

The Raiders will have Burgess and a quicker Sapp on the defensive line next year. With Pass rushing specialist Brayton and rookie defensive end Moses ready to pick up the slack. Give Sapp a little more credit. Most players don't look to improve their playmaking ability this late in thier careers. I'm actually looking forward to some Raider football next year

A rookie 3rd rate coach that USC was happy to let go of, a rookie QB with no protection and no offensive weapons to go to, and now their big defensive tackle gets smaller so he can be pushed around easier.
I think the Raiders will break a franchise record this year. 0-16 here we come!

It's either Cleveland or Oakland with the least wins. Both franchises are jokes.

GIVE THE RAIDERS A CHANCE. THEIR DEFENSE REALLY PLAYED WELL LAST YEAR. THEY HAVE SOME DESCENT OFFENSIVE PLAYERS. THEY CAN PUT IT ALL TOGETHER I THINK THIS YEAR AND WIN MAYBE 6 OR 7 GAMES. GO RAIDERS!!

I, for one could care less about Warren (BIG MOUTH) Sapppppp. I was In a Office Depot one day and he behind me in line. Only myself, him and his agent. After he purchased his items, i waited and asked him for an autograph for my 13 year old son. I am 55 and could care less for myself. He RUDELY STATED, "He does not give autographs. Well, as some of them say
He can kiss my WHITE ASS....and I hope he gets cut and has to work for a living. His days are LONG GONE!

REPLY TO THE GENTLEMEN IN OFFICE DEPOT WHERE W. SAPP WOULD NOT GIVE AN AUTOGRAPH, I HAVE BEEN TO ALL THE RAIDER GAMES AND STAY AT THE HILTON WHERE THEY WILL GIVE AUTOGRAPHS AND IT IS TRUE, WARREN SAPP DOES NOT GIVE AUTOGRAPHS, ITS HIS CHOICE NOT TO, HE'S NOT BEING RUDE, THIS IS HIS CHOICE AND HAS THAT RIGHT. YOU NEED TO ALSO STOP MAKING RACIST COMMENTS, ITS NOT A GOOD EXAMPLE TO YOUR 13 YR OLD SON.

good for Sapp for losing the weight. it's a healthy choice in my opinion (beats being a walking heart attack b/c his body can't handle all the extra weight and the stress he's putting on it to play ball), and if it makes him a better ball player, i'l all for it. :) mind you, i'm a Chiefs fan so i still think the Raiders SUCK! as for him not giving an autograph, that's his choice and i say good for him. these days with "professional" autograph seekers just looking to make a buck off these stars, and the stars not getting anything out of it, i don't blame him for not giving out autographs. he's a business and if he can't get paid behind it, then why should he make the investment? don't blame him, blame the losers who made him make this decision. and i'd rather him NOT give an autograph and just play ball, then become another putz who talks loud, showboats, sells his autograph (would you rather he did that?!) and then can't deliever come game day.

I am a long time Canes fan (and yes it is all about the U). I watched a 285 to 290 Sapp play trust me Raider fans you are in for a treat. I do not care if he is 34 and not 24 he will be in the best shape of his professional carrer or a least since his rookie season. This nonsence about him geating pushed around is crazy you cannot push around what has already blown past you. Second he is still one of the strongest linemen in the NFL so if you are able to get a hand on him he is strong enough to still muscle around any off. lineman.
