It's about damn time. An NBA league official confirmed that the league is looking into Bruce Bowen's actions in these playoffs, specifically the knee to the groin he gave to Steve Nash in Game 3. From ESPN's Marc Stein:
An NBA spokesman confirmed Sunday night that Bowen's third-quarter knee to the groin of Suns guard Steve Nash in Saturday's Game 3 is under review for possible punishment.
Nash declined after Saturday's game and again Sunday to voice any public displeasure with Bowen's physical play. But the league decided anyway to conduct a full investigation into this incident after declining to do so when Bowen was accused of intentionally kicking Amare Stoudemire in Game 2.
While neither play by itself would deserve a suspension, the body of work in this series should cost Bowen at least a game. You can't kick members of the other team as they go in for dunks, and you can't knee two-time MVPs in the crotch. I'm glad the league is finally taking a look at this, and don't be surprised if Bowen ends up being suspended for Game 4.

AS you pointed out, Nash hasn't said a word about this -- it was a league decision. But the Spurs fans are no doubt going to rant about the Suns being whiners!

The Spurs fans can rant all they want, but Bowen has been historically dirty. And with two incidents in this series, he deserves a one game suspension.

It's about freakin time Bowen gets the recognition he deserves. In wrestling it's called "hitting below the belt". Even physical sports have rules about that.
There should be punishment for that type of play.
Thanks Brett

Good thing Steve Nash has kept quiet about this. It is about the league straightens up this NBA version of Conrad Dobler.

I thought of something else. The Suns were hinting towards a more "physical" play in game 4 "to meet the challenge". Do you think that now Bowen may be punished, they may back off their game plan?
I personally would like to see the Suns play their game the way they have all year and not add in "physical" to their mix. But they do have it in them to play that way if forced to.

I'm glad the league is taking this seriously. Physical play is physical play and all teams have to contend with that but cheap shots are another matter. The NBA has to send a message on this kind of thing or you risk retaliations that do neither the playoffs or either team any good. Raja Bell fouled Kobe hard- clotheslined him- after a number of no calls regarding Kobe's elbows. Kobe himself got suspended for cheap shots. Danny Fortson, the Pacers, the Kicks brawl... all the kinds of ugly play nobody wants to an extent come from how the game is called- or not called.
I can't say why the refs let it go with Bowen to this point in the series but the brakes have to be put on this kind of unsportsmanlike conduct. The refs should also be held accountable as well as Bowen. The taint of preferential treatment has to be removed from this series.
My only fear is that the reaction of the refs will be to blow the whistle endlessly on ticky tack garbage that will ultimately also ruin the flow of the game.
Granted, its probably easier to ref a regular season game but obvious cheap shots should not be allowed for one team when ticky tack stuff is called on the other. Just call it fair and everyone will be able to live with the results of the series- let the best team win!

The point is, you shouldn't be purposely taking shots like that on anyone.

It finally took a white to be hurt before the league takes action. Isn't that funny?

In game 2 of the series Jazz/Warriors, I saw Baron Davis giving a hug to former teammate Derek Fisher. In game 4, Baron used a cheap shot and hit Fisher on the head. Same thing for Jason Richardson about his hard foul on Mehmet Okur.
Those players using that form of expedient, whoever they are, deserve to be punished. Period.

There was also a cheap shot late by Baron Davis out of frustration. Elbowed D-Fish in the side of the head. I wonder if the league will investigate that one as well.

If you have watched any amount of NBA you would know that what Bruce did was clearning space for himself. The first policy of defence is to anticipate what the oppenent is going to do. You can only get close to a guy when he is facing away from the basket (and his teammates are behind him) so you could force him to travel or knock the ball out of his hand. I am wondering what Steve was trying to do getting so close to Bruce (remember the height advantage Bruce has over Steve)

Bruce Bowen may be a "dirty" player. But it is working. He is simply doing the same things that made Rodman, Laimbeer, Malone and Barkley famous. He gets under your skin and takes you out of your game. It may be "dirty" but it is also brilliant. And I guarantee that Bowen could careless about a couple of fines, as long as he wins the championship.

Hard fouls are fine, especially when someone is trying to rub a loss in your face (ie JRich), but standing behind someone and kicking them while they are in the air? And kneeing a white guy in the groin (ie the NBA is racist)? C'mon Bruce Bowen, are you gonna bite somebody's ear next?
As for Okur, if you don't like the heat, stay out of the kitchen, especially when you are up by double digits with a minute to go.

Although I'm a Suns fan, I don't want elBowen suspended for a game. I think Pat Burke should be allowed to kill him in the balls after STAT kicks him in the ankle. This should also result in two fouls against the Spurs at the start of the third quarter. Both fouls awarded to Duncan.

It's about tme the NBA looked at Bowen's "physical" style, He's been getting away with abusing other players for years in the name of being physical. He's a dirty player - period!
