You remember Paul Shirley, right? Warmed the Suns bench for a few years, started writing a fairly entertaining blog over at the team's official site, and eventually moved on to ESPN.com when he became a big hit. That guy. He has a book coming out soon, and like everyone else, he has an opinion on the controversial Spurs/Suns series that ended last night.While some of us here at the FanHouse get accused of hating the Spurs, I don't think any of us have ever gone as far as Mr. Shirley in describing our contempt for their death march towards the NBA Finals:
I can't imagine how anyone could root for the Spurs. It would be like cheering for cancer. Of course, they're really effective (unfortunately, so is cancer), but I don't know if a roster of such easily disliked basketball players has ever been assembled.I'm going to assume that Shirley is joking when he says rooting for the Spurs is like cheering for cancer, because he's a pretty funny guy, and the statement in and of itself doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you treat it as a joke. It's also important to remember that Shirley used to play for the Suns, so it's not like he's just a casual observer.
Tim Duncan might be one of the greatest players of all time, but the constant bug-eyed complaints and the mumps-cheeks make him borderline unwatchable. Manu Ginobili was one of my favorites when he played in Italy. Here, he seems determined to bring a soccer-style sissification of basketball-along with a strong belief in the power of the bald spot-to our shores. Tony Parker looks like Gargamel. And everybody knows that Gargamel is evil.

Even if no one roots for the Spurs. The precedent has been sent to change bball as we know it. The Spurs took a page right out of the NHL inserted in the NBA and it was accepted.

and TD. is way over rated. The only reason I watched the game was to see the Suns beat them,they would have if they and the refees weren't so dirty. The Suns will get them next yr. They are a good clean team and nice to watch play.

Last night......, watching Steve Nash on the podium...., whinning and woe is meing, sheer comedy. What can i tell you? " I love me some spurs". Like i said here months ago, every post season....., like clockwork..., some PG..., be it bibby or Davis, or Van Axel, or Parker, or just about anybody playing point on some other team kicks little steve's ass all over the court. Yes, GAME 5....., what about games 1, 3 and 6? not forgetting all the love from the REFs in game 4. PHX and their fans are whinners and sore losers and considering that Nash has never won anything in the post season, he just might be the best point guard of the regular season ever. Funny nobody mentions how Nash made Marcus Banks, Jalen Rose and Boris Diaw worse this season, since he gets all the credits when things are going well, i believe he must join in the eating of this crow. PHX sucks.

I think that the comments that were made about The FGaboulous SPURS was STUPID.... Tim Duncan Is GREAT!!! ANd, the comment about cheering for the SPURS is like cheering for CANCER IS BULL!!! I am a Cancer survivor and I have been cheering for the SPURS for the last 14 years so, I just say You should watch what you say.. Just face it the SPURS are a better team. SO, Don't be a sore loser

surviving cancer and 'Rooting for the Spurs Is Like Cheering for Cancer' are two completely different subjects, even if you've supported the Spurs for 14 years, it doesn't take away the fact that the Spurs are a dirty team, they may have won, but they are still dirty.
