The Detroit Tigers Should Sign Troy Percival

Troy PercivalWe've already had more than our fair share of Troy Percival updates here at the FanHouse, but we're bringing one more: several teams are expected to watch him throw this week, including the Detroit Tigers today. If Percival is serious about a) joining a team where he could make an immediate impact, and b) joining a team with a chance to go far in the playoffs, I don't see how he could pass up a chance to join the Tigers. From the Detroit Free Press:
When asked if the recent injury to Fernando Rodney, coupled with Joel Zumaya's anticipated three-month absence, increased the chances that Percival would sign with Detroit, Cohen said, "He really, really likes the Detroit organization. He liked his time there. He has a very positive feeling for the Tigers."
The Tigers' bullpen ranks dead last in the majors with a 5.42 ERA, and the problems go beyond losing Rodney and Zumaya. Todd Jones has 15 saves, but with just seven strikeouts in 23 outings (2.9 K/9), his whole "pitching to contact" strategy has been scientifically proven to induce ulcers. The Tigers need to make a move to pick up another reliever, and snatching up potentially worthwhile free agents is always preferable to a trade.
