Sports Illustrated is out with its annual Fortunate 50 list of the highest-earning athletes in the world, and it's no surprise that Tiger Woods is No. 1. But the dollar figure is staggering: His ridiculous endorsement earnings makes him "sports' first $100 million man" even without his relatively puny $12 million in winnings. Another surprise: Phil Mickelson is third, with $47 million in endorsements in addition to $4.3 million in winnings. (Oscar De La Hoya is second with $53 million in winnings and $2 million in endorsements.)
Michelle Wie is the only female on the list, with less than $1 million in winnings but nearly $20 million in endorsements. With today's endorsement contracts, it's a very good time to be a world-famous golfer.

I am disgusted that a fan in the devil rays/ tigers game was ejected for catching a foul ball in the stands. The umpire was in postion to make an interference call, but did not. Replay showed the ball to be above the railing , and therfore not in the field of play. When fans buy their ticket they should be allowed to enjoy the entire game. The Devil rays owe that fan an public apology and free tickets for more than one game. I would also like to note that I sent my concerns to the Devil Rays, but as of yet, they have chosen not to respond. To the fan that was ejected, I wish that all baseball fans would stand up for the rights of all, however until it affects them personally, few are willing to stand up for others.

Great for Tiger. His earnings are well deserved based on his contribution to the game. The size of the golf purse for PGA events has climbed dramatically since his arrival on tour. I hope he continues to promote tournaments and educational programs for kids around the world.

It is wrong for anyone to say that Tigers' earnings are well deserved. There is not a person on Earth worth $100 million. Dont get me wrong, I love sports and almost everything they stand for, but it is sad to see people starving, barely scraping to survive, while a guy that plays golf makes more money than anyone, except Mike Tyson, could ever spend. Yea, but I guess Tiger does need the money to buy a house in the city where he plays a golf tournament and have all his furniture moved into that house. Nice comment though #3.

Phil Mickelson sold out to the "Rip Off oil companies". He advertises for Exxon/ Mobil..They raise the price of gas and then give thousands to Mickelson to try to keep us from hating their Greedy ass! I am now longer Mickelson's greatest Fan. If he needs money that badly he can show up every thursday at my club and play for quarters!

There isn't a top dollar to what a person may be worth. You are worth whatever someone will pay you! Can you ever have enough money? I hav'nt heard anyone say I have to much money.

I like Tiger Woods and he has been a good role model, living a clean life, no police records. He deserves whatever he is getting. Same is true with Phil Mickelson and Michelle Wie. Now if that was another celebrity with hovering scandal shadows, then I will be totally upset.

Michael Schumaker from Formula One racing was the first $100 Million Man in sports history for many years with Ferrari. Unfortunately the sports world doesn't recognize auto racing as a sport. What a shame!

I have NO problem with the compensation paid to any sports figure, as long as they do their BEST to win. As to Woods, he has expanded the number of viewing public by thousands, advertisers know this and are reaping the money paid in endorsements by ten fold. This system works only because the American people approve. I only wish other athlics such as Joe Lewis were to have been so fortunate. We pay for what WE WANT. If you dissagree, I'm sorry, but $100,000,000 does not lie.

I don't like paying so much for gas, but people need to look at the facts......yes Exxon is making huge profits, but does the press report how much in gas taxes states collect? Profit per gallon for oil companies is about 6 to 12 cents per gallon. My state charges 36 cents per gallon for state tax with another 2 cent per gallon increase coming July 1 and another 1.5 cents per gallon in 2008......... Most of the cost per gallon goes to the countries we get the crude oil from....... So, even if oil companies did not get any profit at all, our gas would still be over $3.40 per gallon..........so who is really to blame for that?

The oil companies can charge a$100.00 per gallon if they want. Isn't that what free enterprise and a free market is all about. If it gets so bad I can't stand it, I'll just have to ride a bike or get a horse and buggy. Sooner of later the companies will have to come back down, if everyone else does as well, but we are spoiled.
