The Word:

Bud Selig Is Sending Jason Giambi to the Principal's Office

The saga of Jason Giambi rolls on. After telling everyone he was sorry for doing "that stuff" -- and then taking a somewhat suspect trip to the DL -- Giambi has been asked specifically by Uncle Bud Selig to sit down with George Mitchell's investigation.

That would make Giambi the first of his kind, as no other active players are known to have cooperated with Mitchell. This seems to be Giambi's punishment from Selig for making his "stuff" comments, remarks that were as ill-advised as they were scripted. Selig's request, at least to me, feels eerily like a high school teacher sending an unruly student to the dean's office. The teacher has lost control, has no recourse, and just wants the problem to go away. Sounds like Bud to me.

Giambi doesn't necessarily have to cooperate -- and after all, maybe baseball doesn't really want him to -- but any steroid-related info in that thick skull of Jason's would be, at the very least, sickly compelling.
