When Virginia Commonwealth upset Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament three months ago, senior guard Jesse Pellot-Rosa had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. But when Pellot-Rosa's college basketball career came to an end after the second round of the tournament, he didn't turn his attention to the NBA. Instead, he looked ahead at the NFL.
Pellot-Rosa was a good enough high school football player to draw interest from ACC schools, but he chose to focus on hoops and attend Virginia Commonwealth. Jets coach Eric Mangini liked the athleticism he saw in Pellot-Rosa and offered him a tryout at wide receiver. At today's Jets minicamp, Pellot-Rosa said he knows he has a lot to work on:
"I need to improve my speed, pass-catching ability, and I need to watch more film," he said.
I like Mangini's thought process in getting a raw athlete with potential, and I'll have an eye out for Pellot-Rosa when the preseason starts.
