Last night Ricky Hatton knocked out Jose Luis Castillo with a brutal shot to the liver in the fourth round. It was a dominating performance and one that has to leave many boxing fans thinking that the sport's next big fight should feature Hatton taking on the best boxer in the world, Floyd Mayweather. That's a fight Hatton wants, and it's a fight every fan wants. At Rumors and Rants, Ryan Phillips writes about why it won't happen:
I don't think Mayweather would take a fight with Hatton because it is too big a risk for him. He wouldn't be able to run away the way he did against De La Hoya, and if forced to trade with him, "Pretty Boy" could be in trouble.
And that, in a nutshell, is what's wrong with boxing. Hatton vs. Mayweather would be a tremendous fight, and the fans will be deprived of it.

Floyd Mayweather just wants to keep on fighting semi-retired old men. He has run up the weight divisions faster than Jesse Owens could have managed just to avoid people like Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, Antonio Marguerita and Shane Mosley.
Hatton will knock Mayweather out whether they meet at junior-welter or welter. Ricky Hatton has Floyd's number, Mayweather will be ground down and stopped. No problem for Ricky.

So now everyone thinks Mayweather is SCARED of this guy?
That's too funny. Mayweather doesn't have anything to prove to any of you losers. You can bitch and whine all you want, but if he doesn't come back, that's his decision. You can't expect the man to punish his brain for as long as YOU guys want him to.

Hattons the Man and Mayweather knows it.
Thats why this fight will never happen.
Lil floyd's more concerned about keeping his ego intact than fronting up to a real challenger. He know's he's never faced anybody like Hatton.
Retirement is the best excuse he could use without losing face. Plain and simple, he knew Hatton was coming. Better safe than sorry aye Floyd?

I think it would be Hattons finishing fight win or lose he will have done what he set out to do and become champ. I think Mayweather should take the fight, as retireing at his age and still with his skill is a bit premature.
It Would be one of the biggest grosing fights shown ever and if the sport wasn't enough to get him back in the ring, then the money would deffinatly be enough.

Floyd would win right now but in the next 2 to 3 years Hatton's odds would get better. Dont underestimate Floyd the young man may be a jerk but he has skills few have ever had in boxing.

Some of you people should step back and think about a few things before you go on your little rage against Mayweather:
#1 - with the way boxers are PERMANENTLY injured after soending the typical time in the ring, who in here is qualified to say when he is retiring "PREMATURELY"
#2 - If you think this guys has what it takes to beat Mayweather, based on his record and his "likeability" then that's your business, but the reality is, despite everyone's disdain for Mayweather, he is probably the smartest and most complete fighter out there. He has speed, stamina, skill, and poise. Right now he would destroy this guy.

Hatton has what it takes to beat floyd no one doubts that mayweather is a silky smooth boxer with a punch to match but i just feel hatton edges the contest on sheer aggresion and raw power Floyd has never met a fighter of Hattons callibur or strength.
And if as some suspect that Floyd feels he as done enough and is retiring for what he sees as health reasons then fine but lets hope the draw of the ring is not to strong and he returns later only to find he is too slow or has lost the edge because that is when the damage can realy be done. Floyd has never taken a beating and that is due to his skill and abillity I for one rate Floyd as one of the best pound for pound fighters around at the moment and all the best to him with what ever he does in his life from now lets just hope he stays in boxing in some capacity as it would be a shame to lose such an ambassodor for the pugilistic purists with a big personality.

What a joke. Hatton's a mediocre fighter with NOBODY in his weight class. Castillo looked like a geriatric from the minute he stepped in the ring.

Castillo was done before he entered the ring. Does anyone remember the beating he took from Corrales. Hatton is a good exciting brawler, but he can not match up with the skills of Mayweather. Like him or not he is great at what he does and you have to respect greatness. I remember everyone saying how Gatti would destroy him but look what happened.

"Yes he was old when they fought together but he was a truly great champion respected by every noticable in the fight game. Can the same be said about Mayweather?"
Well Mayweather fought Castillo twice (back when he was a legit fighter) as well as Chico Corrales in his prime. Hatton's top fight was against Kostya who had one foot out the door.

It's not beyond the impossible that mayweather could avoid going toe to toe with hatton in a contest. In that scenario i would make mayweather favourite but on the other hand hatton has the ability to hurt mayweather, actually he could finish him period. As for those who talk about who hatton has fought, try the great Kostya. Yes he was old when they fought together but he was a truly great champion respected by every noticable in the fight game. Can the same be said about Mayweather?

Floyd has all the skills but, what's the point of having them if you're not using them? The only times we see the skills is when he fights an opponent he can use them on, older, slower fighters.
Floyd is part of the reason Boxing is in the trash can now. He's a Champion but, on paper only.

Ok you guys think that Lil Floyd is running from Hatton Let's look at history
1). Hatton was a champion for over ten years and is just now coming to america? Why is that when America is looked at as having the best fighters.
2). Has he fought and top tier fighters of fighters on the way down? Only two fighters to metion of resume.
Not to take anything from Hatton he has skill to be a great fighter but has never fought the caliber of Floyd. Floyd has never duck a fight but now what does he have to prove, for him it's about money now. And who would blame him. Look at what happened to Roy jones Jr. Noboby wanted to fight him in his prime but when his skill deminished all these fighters cam out the woodworks. Floyd will go through the same thing. It's sad. No fighter wants brain damage. Quit while you have your senses Floyd a true boxing fan wouldn't blame you

Anyone who really thinks ricky hatton has any chance at all against Prettyboy Floyd does not know much about the sport of boxing.Ricky Hatton is a puncher and if he gets in a good shot, maybe he has a punchers chance. But his ability to out box him is very slim to none. Please dont shorten another boxer career by pushing him way to soon.see if he can get past Zab Judah or Cotto first before you put him on Mayweather

Anyone that thinks Ricky hatton has anything for Floyd Mayweather knows nothing about the sport. The only way hatton could beat Floyd is with a lucky punch.his boxing skills are not up to that level yet and is getting sit-up for a really bad beating.Let him fight Zab Judah or Cotto first and than if he gets through them give him a shot. But just going after Mayweather is a silly mistake.Beating castillo is not nearly the challenge. It,s like throwing him to the lion,s with sauce all over him.He has a puncher,s chance and that is not gonna cut it.He is not ready yet.And he will get a really baaaaD beating From Mayweather.Don,t shorten his career.
