Round 13 of the Australian Football League season is already under way, with a spirited Melbourne Demons side nearly sending Neale Daniher out a winner, but a late goal gave the Essendon Bombers a 125-123 victory. Big games dominate this round, and if you live in the U.S., two of those big games will be on Setanta Sports.(Times shown are Eastern and Pacific.)
Geelong Cats v. Sydney Swans (SAT, 12:00 AM ET/FRI 9:00 PM PT): If it's not danger time yet for Sydney, it's getting awfully close. They need a win against first-place Geelong, who are all but assured of remaining in first place no matter what happens, to get back into Finals Series contention. Sources are reporting that Barry Hall will miss his first game in five years with a groin injury.
Adelaide Crows v. West Coast Eagles (SAT, 11:00 PM ET/SAT 8:00 PM PT): Both sides have lost two of their last three, and both sides are nursing injuries, but Chris Judd's absense is clearly hurting West Coast, and Adelaide is at home. Can the Crows climb into the Top 4 and pull the Eagles back into the pack?
Other key matches this week:
Collingwood Magpies v. Hawthorn Hawks: Two Top 4 teams duke it out to stay there. Goal-scoring monster Lance "Buddy" Franklin (pictured) is out for the Hawks, but Anthony Rocca is also out for the 'Pies. This one could be the most physical matchup of the week.
Kangaroos v. Western Bulldogs: Both teams are hovering near the edge of the Finals Series cutoff, and the winner of this one will be in much better shape to get to the postseason.
Brisbane Lions v. Port Adelaide Power: Finals are "back on the agenda" in Port, but they still need to win a road game to solidify their position. (This game will also be on Setanta Sports on Sunday at 2:00 AM ET, Saturday at 11:00 PM PT.)
