The Atlanta Gator Club, whose logo is "Deep In Enemy Territory," is petitioning the State Department of Revenue for a special Gators auto tag, similar to the one commonly seen on cars throughout Florida.Similar, but not the same: it's a Georgia license plate.
And that doesn't sit too well with Senator Eric Johnson (R-Savannah), who wrote a letter to Georgia Revenue Commissioner Bart Graham to express his displeasure with the idea:
Dear Commissioner Graham:What a foofaraw! That's pretty knee-slappingly funny, though. I'm awarding +10 karma to Eric Johnson for "a car up on blocks cannot move." Perhaps he got his inspiration from his buddy Jack Kingston.
This is absolutely unacceptable for our state!
A Gator tag will cause accidents. Gator fans cannot drive or read traffic signs. A car up on blocks cannot move. And it will lower our quality of life. In fact, my children used to have nightmares because we lived dangerously close to the state of Florida.
If state law allows this to occur then we need to change the law. Please delay any approval until the next session when we can amend the law to ban any tag for a university with more national championships than the average IQ of their alumni. A delay in processing their application should not require much of an effort since they cannot write either.
If it takes a 1,000 signatures to create a tag, can we have a regulation that 1,000 e-mails AGAINST a proposed tag kills it? If you agree, please count this as e-mail # 1.....
Please keep me informed as to the progress of this outrage. I am counting on the GEORGIA Department of Revenue to handle it appropriately. (wink-wink)
Sen. Eric Johnson

I read on another blog recently that the state of Georgia issues Auburn tags.

I saw one of those Auburn tags from Georgia just yesterday. I have also seen Klempson tags from North Carolina.
It's not such an outrageous idea.
But I can definitely see the outrage with a Florida tag. The UF hatred is much deeper in GA than anywhere.

Fantastic letter. That one got me laughing pretty good.
I would be appalled to see a Michigan plate with a Buckeyes tag, so I can certainly see where he's coming from. In reality, it's not that big of a deal, but it just goes to show you how highly people value sports.

Being a long time gators fan (40+ yrs.) and owning homes in both Florida and Georgia. I know how hard core both states fans are. People in Georgia will freak if this goes through. Remember, The University of Florida is in Gainesville, The Gator nation is everywhere.

What does that supposed to mean? "Gator fans cannot drive or read traffic signs". That's a bunch of crap. I'm a gator fan and I can drive just fine.

Well Dawg fans!!!!!! We got the tag thru. Go Gator's. It will be great to have a Gator tag in GA. I would pay 100.00 for one. What's the big deal. I hope all the Sec schools will apply for one in the state of GA I wouldn't bother me for the Dawgs to apply for a tag in Florida.
