When Zach Frazer learned he was 4th on the Notre Dame QB depth chart, he transferred to UConn. He left on good terms with ND, the coaches and the players. He also offered practically no insight into who he thought would be the starting QB for ND in September."I tell everyone the same thing, I don't know who's going to start at Notre Dame this fall. It could be Demetrius Jones, Jimmy Clausen or Evan Sharpley," he said.Frazer's father, however, had a different perspective (July 6 entry date).
"From what we know Sharpley is going to be the guy," David Frazer told me from his office in Harrisburg, Pa. "Jones will be put in for a few trick plays. Clausen won't play this year."Okay, points to Dennis Dodd for getting something new for the "who will be the starting QB for ND this year" debate. Minus many more for still calling the report unsubstantiated.
Wow. That lends credence to an unsubstantiated blog that surfaced earlier this summer. It stated that Clausen had surgery on his throwing elbow. No one has confirmed the surgery or Clausen's playing status.
But that would make sense. If Clausen is still healing from surgery it would be wise to sit him out.
"The way Charlie described it, he doesn't think he has the passing game this year," David Frazer said. "He wants somebody to throw it five yards (downfield). They're going to run it more.
The "unsubstantiated blog" story that had a fair amount of substantiation. There's still the issue of what kind of "medical procedure" Clausen had, leading to other questions of who performed what exactly and how long it will take Clausen to recover, but unless the procedure involved crystals and chanting it would seem that there was something done to the golden arm of Jimmy Clausen.
Safe to say that Charlie Weis, with his Bill Belichick-educated reticence for revealing any information concerning game plans or player status, will not be pleased. How dare the father of a former player speak out of turn? These things are supposed to only come from Weis who insists that, "the only one who will answer for the health of our players will be me."
On the other hand, perhaps this was all part of Charlie Weis' master plan of disinformation and the elder Frazer was helping to further confuse the picture. Leaving all of us waiting with bated breath until practices start in August.
This approach leaves a spokesmen for ND with not much to say other than Clausen will be ready for practice in August. Since the NCAA does not have the same obligations to disclose injuries that the NFL does, don't expect much more information forthcoming.

I think its sort of brilliant. Clausen got surgery so he gets a free pass this year. I don't think he should start, I think next year when we've got a alot of better players and better recruits then he should play... Not to mention he'll be alot better, given that hes been with charlie for this long. This is a rebuild year, we shouldn't use our ace when there is no chance of going anywhere.

Coach Weis has made his choice of Quarterback if you key in on his skilled QB assessments. Only precision passing and smart judgement will carry the day. Zero QB turnovers allows the rest of the team to win! Only Clausen has demonstrated these critial attributes.

Sorry Charlie! If the candidates of the Notre Dame doesn't who will start then it is biggest blunder a professional coach could make. You don't play with kids minds like that Charlie!
