Greg Oden is Likely Done for the Summer

After a couple of mediocre performances (including fouling out of his debut), there's a strong possibility that Greg Oden will miss the rest of the Summer League due to a severe case of tonsillitis. The Blazers' top pick will likely need a tonsillectomy by the end of the week, and by the time he recovers, the Summer League will have finished.

Jason Quick of The Oregonian got a look at the diseased area, and it wasn't pretty:

On Monday, I asked Oden to show me his tonsils, and he obliged. I was so startled, I asked him to show me again. His tonsils are so swollen that only a small passage way - about the size of a green grape - was evident.

If Blazers' fans were concerned about the big man's slow start in his first two games, they can now put those worries to rest. The fact that Oden played at all while this was going on is something to be praised, and the fact that he didn't mention it to the media as an excuse for his poor play is equally impressive.

While it's true that Oden will miss some valuable time on the court this Summer, there is a bright side: at least he won't have random fans possibly attempting to check him out in the men's room.
