This story originally showed up in the diaries at Bruins Nation yesterday. At least four hours later the same story was reported on the LA Times UCLA blog (it may have been a mere coincidence, but it seems to be yet another example of a failure to attribute to a blog by a mainstream writer). This morning LA Observed noted it but unknowingly credited the LA Times UCLA blog. [Editor Note: The LA Times UCLA Blog in a separate post maintains that they got the story independently. Somewhat amusingly they reference seeing posts complaining about the lack of credit, but don't actually link to them. I can't understand why people would suspect them of not crediting?]Sorry, had to get credit out to the right places before getting to the actual story (talk about burying the lede). The main point is that Steve Lavin, the reviled former UCLA Coach and present ESPN college basketball analyst, and his rather comely fiance, Mary Ann Jarou (click for pictures, as tragically, Getty has no photos of her, forcing us to use the ever-gelled Lavin) sent out an e-mail disinvite to their August 17 wedding.
Instead they will flee to points unknown in Europe .
Update from the Jarou/Lavin wedding headquarters in Newport Beach.Unbelievable. I'm trying to figure out which is more stunning. That they overbooked their wedding, or that so many people in the LA area would want to attend.
Unexpectedly we have received a stunning 95% RSVP on sent out wedding invitations. As a result, our wedding guest list has far exceeded the maximum capacity for a traditional ceremony and reception at The Montage Resort.
After giving serious consideration to alternative plans we have decided the best option at this late stage is to head to Europe to create a magical wedding day.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconveniences this change in our wedding plans may have caused you.
We are sorry that we will not be able to share our big day with family and friends. We will be sure to send you photos of our wedding upon our return from Europe.
Please confirm that you received this email.
Thanks in advance for your understanding.
Warm regards,
Steve & Mary

1. A rather irrelevant story, frankly, you should find something else to blog about. I don't understand why whordes of people would want to attend the pretentious Lavin's wedding either other than simply liking that kind of thing in general (many morons do and would NEVER pass up any wedding invitation), but it's not an interesting issue any more than he's a particularly interesting person, sorry.

2. This story has merit for one reason: the hotness of Lavin's fiance. Nice job Steve.

3. Jerry,
If you don't like the coverage here, start your own blog. I'm sure people will line up to read it.

4. Whatever Chris. I really couldn't care less about you, your opinion of my post or how many people would or wouldn't read a blog of mine, so I think you know what you can do with yourself at this point.

5. Regarding the last remark of the entry ("I'm trying to figure out which is more stunning. That they overbooked their wedding, or that so many people in the LA area would want to attend."), you are assuming that Lavin is telling the truth. It's a lot more believable that something else is going on, maybe that Lavin is dis-inviting only certain people (which would explain why the Montage hasn't been notified of any cancellation), or Lavin and his fiancee decided to elope for some other reason altogether.
