Earlier,
Rashard Lewis signed with Orlando for something over
$110 million for six years. Then, Charlotte signed
Gerald Wallace for
$57 million for six years. To ensure I was not going insane, I created a visual cue to compare the signings. I will now share it with you.

First,
Antonie Walker. Now, Gerald Wallace. STOP THE MADNESS!

The Magic overpaid for sure, but with them off the market who else had much cap space? Memphis (who are apparently signing Darko) and Milwaukee. Would they pay him $10 million plus? With Rashard and the Magic out of the picture (and perhaps Darko and the Griz out too), perhaps $10 m was market value. Anyway, the Bobcats are looking better for it:
PG Ray Felton
SG Jason Richardson, Matt Carroll
SF Gerald Wallace, Adam Morisson, Jared Dudley
PF Walter Hermann, Sean May
C Emeka Okafor, Primoz Brezec

Great little piece and astute of you to give credit to an underrated player.
In 2005-06, G-Dep, or Crash as you like to call him, was the first player since David Robinson in 1992 to average over two blocks and two steals per game. Yet nobody really cared or notices, aside from Charlotte and fantasy droolers.

By the way, I'm also obsessed with all things Walter Herrmann, though Argentina is a far cry from gulliness. I think he should just go with his last name, and that's it. The Walter drags him down. Possible nicknames include: "B-Ball Fabio", "Herrmann the Barbarian", or my personal favorite, "Flowing Locks Of Fury." Charlotte fans really need to start wearing wigs to games in support.

Nice chart--Hollinger would be proud.
Clearly Tony Dutt deserves a checkmark in the Rashard column as well.

And to think that you idiot bloggers thought that the Vince Carter 60 million deal for 4 years was ridiculous. None of the players above are not anywhere near Vince Carter's abilities. 110 mil for 4 years? WTF indeed. Orlando Magic is one stupid franchise.

To be fair, he'll be 25 by the time next season starts. He is pretty young for being a 6 year veteran, though.

Actually, there appears to be some discrepancy regarding his age. ESPN's player page, his NBA bio, and Wikipedia all list him as 24, but I've read two separate articles about his signing (Slam and ESPN.com) that list his age at 26. Who knows?

If this does not prove the total insanity of free agency in the NBA then I don't know what does. The irony of Otis Smith, of all GMS, who just got Grant Hill, poster boy of ultra-frail dudes with ludicrous max contracts, off the books signing Shard's deal is unbearably galling. And Grant Hill pre-injury, what the Magic probably expected when they got him, was 10 times the player Shard is. I hope Dwight Howard enjoys watching Shard hoist 14 3s night in and night out.
If the Bobcats somehow pick up another athletic 6'6-8" swingman they can get a Hawks/Warriors kind of thing going, which is always nice.

DM, Vince Carter is still overpaid too. But I wonder if he's retroactively kicking himself for not going to Orlando. They probably would have granted him ownership rights to their arena, the way they're throwing money around.

it truly doesn't get any gullier than Childersburg, AL. basically anytime you're in the NBA and you can say you were born in the same state where an 11 year-old girl just got arrested for drunk driving, that's pretty gully.
