Since a report surfaced that Dan Patrick already has a syndication deal in place for his own radio show after he leaves ESPN, there has been much speculation (including here) that Patrick has already spent his last day on ESPN Radio. That speculation has been fueled, in part, by the fact that when Patrick has been off the air lately, his fill-in hosts haven't mentioned his name -- a sharp contrast with, for instance, Mike and Mike in the Morning, which still uses the hosts' names even when the hosts aren't on.
But an ESPN spokesman tells me that the speculation is wrong, and that Patrick will be back for a "farewell week." And although I sometimes think the Worldwide Leader does a little too much navel gazing, I think a week in which Patrick is featured prominently both on ESPN Radio and on TV is appropriate. On his radio gig and, especially, on SportsCenter, Patrick has been one of the most influential people in the world of sports over the last 20 years, and his career at ESPN deserves to be celebrated. I'm glad to learn I was wrong in thinking he might just disappear from Bristol.

Dan Patrick has become a sports icon. We tune in each day to get Dan's spin on issues, and then we most likely agree with him.
Having his freedom to further develope his show will be fantastic - as long as most markets can cover it. With a little luck Oberman will follow him. Keith adds another dimension.
But I really want Dan to hire Rob Dibble back - those two together is pure magic.

Keith Olbermann is too valuable on MSNBC to waste on sh*t like ESPN Radio.

OlberBOY is a conceited, arrogant, pretentious idiot whose ego is fed for some reason by Dan Patrick. Olberman is a girly-man, Dibble is a man's man. The Big Show sucks.

I can't tell you what a pleasure it's been the last few weeks not hearing Keith Olbermann. I do like some of Dan Patrick's commentary but when he opened up an hour of his show each day to Keith Olbermann's ego he lost me. I also thought it was completely disengenous for Dan Patrick to interview Pat Tillman's wife with ultra left Keith Olbermann by his side then claim he had no idea she was going to go on an anti Bush administration vent. What, they don't do pre-interviews? Come on. I would have been far more impressed if he had been honest about it. Also, I don't want to hear politics discussed with sports. I listen to enough political talk during other times of the day and would like to get completely away from it when I choose to listen to sports talk. Anyway, good-bye and great riddance to Keith Awfulmann.
