Jason Giambi met with George Mitchell rather quietly on Friday, much to the appeasement of commissioner Bud Selig. And, according to our buddy Murray Chase of the New York Times and the fellas over at the Biz of Baseball, it looks like Selig -- because he's just so darn happy he finally got someone to talk to old Georgie Boy -- won't be taking any more action against Giambi. The Biz of Baseball is hearing from sources today, that Commissioner Selig will not be suspending or fining Jason Giambi, after the Yankees DH spoke with former Senator George Mitchell and his on-going investigation into performance-enhancing drugs in MLB last week.
A column by Murray Chass of the NY Times today seems to confirm the source. Chass adds that not only will Giambi not be penalized for making comments to USA Today that seem to allude to the use of performance-enhancing drugs, Selig may possibly praise Giambi for being available to the Mitchell investigation.
I'm of the camp that this is the right move by Selig. Have Giambi go talk to Mitchell as a good P.R. move, saying nothing more than he's already admitted to doing and call it a day. At least the guy has admitted doing steroids. I think he's endured enough for his honesty, don't you?
