From Bad to Worse for Falcons: Warrick Dunn Will Miss Training Camp After Back Surgery

The Falcons' most popular player, Michael Vick, is embroiled in a scandal that will keep fans from seeing him at training camp (and likely keep fans from ever seeing him in a Falcons uniform again). But at least fans can see the Falcons' second-most popular player, Warrick Dunn, at training camp. Right?

Not quite. Dunn will miss training camp after having surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back. The surgery typically takes six weeks of recovery, so he still has a chance to be back in time for the season opener.

If there's anything positive for the Falcons, it's that Dunn was expected to take a secondary role to Jerious Norwood this season. Norwood is a promising running back who is probably a better player right now than Dunn, who has lost a step. But Dunn is a veteran leader on a team that can't afford to lose any veteran leadership right now.
