They couldn't get Steve Francis or Mo Williams. So according to The Miami Herald the Heat have agreed to terms with Smush Parker. While there are no official numbers yet, it's believed to be "a two-year contract for a portion of the Heat's $5.35 million mid-level exception." Smush will back up Jason Williams; he's replacing the retired Gary Payton while sort of compensating for the loss of Jason Kapono's range. Except, as The Herald notes, he's a questionable free throw shooter who turns over the ball more than he should. Over in Los Angeles, this means that the point guard position will go to Derek Fisher in the short-term. On the horizon, though, is a two-way battle between Jordan Farmar and incoming rook Javaris Crittendon. Both are inexperienced and potentially very good; it's also hard to imagine that either will be a worse long-term option that Parker.

The Lakers will likely start Fisher, with Crittenton and Farmar getting their cut. I have a feeling Crittenton will see some time at the 2.
Good riddance on Smush. The Heat can take him.
The Miami Herald is misinformed, as it looks like they're taking scouting lessons from Mark Jackson. Smush is a horrid defender, inconsistent, and his free throws aren't that much of a problem. He definitely can turn the ball over, but his attitude can be a concern. His ego is worse than Jason Williams and Antoine Walker.
It's a good change for Smush though, with the defense that Miami plays, he could be a good fit.

I ain't mad at you Smush or Miami Heat. For whatever reason any scoring threat just as capable as Koby has always vanished away from the Lake Show. See Nick da quik (Van Exel), Eddie(plays defense)Jones, Glen Rice, Pretty Ricky(Fox), Shaq Diesel, G.P. (Gary Payton), The Mail Man(Karl Malone), Ty Lue, Big shot Rob(Horry, Kareem Rush somehow seems to end up on another team, Hmm!??!

When you get a two year starter to come to your team as a backup you did okay. He must have done something right because he played a lot more than Farmer their first round draft pick. Phil Jackson mishandled him.

4. It's not that he did something right, it's that Phil didn't have a choice. He made a big statement by starting Jordan over Smush in the final game of the season and in the playoffs. I think the starting of Smush was more of a 'no choice' decision and a better decision to develop Farmar.
He started, but he sure as hell didn't deserve to.
With that said, he could make a decent backup for Miami and I can see him being a sixth man of the year candidate. He's always there when you need him (at least physically) as he barely, or I don't think he even did miss a game in his Laker tenure, he can score, and he's pretty clutch when his ego's in the game. If anyone can make it work with Smush, it's definitely Miami. Good luck to the Heat and Smush.
Oh, and he's the most overrated defender in the NBA.

Number 2, you are an idoit. How can you mention Smush Parker's name with those guys. Smush is one of the worst players to EVER put on a Laker uniform? Kareem Rush is in the same boat. Dont blame Kobe because Parker and Rush cant play. Hell they couldnt play before they got there. Number 4, Phil mishandled him?
Are you nuts. Smush played to many minutes. Thats the only way Phil mishandled him. Number 3 you are right. Number 5, you hit the nail on the head.

Shoals, just a pre-camp guess, but watch for Farmar to start and Fisher to come off the bench. Fish is a great role player off the bench but has been questionable as a starter (just ask Golden State). Plus, he's not young, so you want to keep Fish's minutes down during the long regular season. Farmar, on the other hand, is improving and probably is as good or a better defender than Fish right now.
