If you're looking for a definitive source when rumors are mongered in sports, The Associated Press is your best bet. As a rule the wire service rarely goes with loose rumors, which should make this story feel particularly final. Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told The Associated Press on Monday. The AP says it will be Al Jefferson, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff and an unspecified draft pick for The Ticket. The story also says the deal could be officially announced as soon as this evening via conference call.
Whatever trepidation still existed throughout the day (cleanly/gallantly chronicled by Shoals) can be put aside now. Now? All those hypotheticals get thrown back onto the fire.

1. Putting all the team history aside..why would anyone want to play in a city that is so overtly racist..I guess if your are a wealthy professional athlete perhaps they do not feel the hatred in your everyday life but for any minority, you see and feel it everyday..
Thought KG was above all that when he previously stated that he did not want to play in beantown but I guess he just another one looking strictly at the dollar signs..

2. In the East this team is now a serious contender. I think that having a trio of Garnett, Pierce and Allen will push the Celtics to the cream of the crop in the eastern conference. Plus all three guys are ring free, I think they will be hungry and play unselfish ball to get this team to the Championship. Should be fun to watch. The power is starting to shift to the East, anyone feel that way too??

3. The report said those players "could" be included...the pieces the Celtics will be dealing aren't definite yet, as far as I know.

4. "overtly racist?" do you live in boston, opp, and see and feel the "hatred" every day?
i'm sure there are racists around every corner throwing things at you as you try to make your way down the street, right?

5. Knowing that we (MN) were going to loose him after this season anyway, I'm happy he is going to Boston and not the Lakers. I've been a Lakers hater since I was in grade school and that would have hurt a lot. I would have probably wished bad things against him (as sad as that is.) All and all, good luck KG. I've had a blast watching you from day 1, and I hope you get your shot at a title. Boston, have fun. Your getting a man with alot of energy and heart (you can't teach heart).
PS, KG- a little advise. Stop fading away in the lane, It is ok to dunk on fools. Good luck to you.

6. hey bmp: you guys are going to love Big Al as well. and maybe even Gerald.
incidentally, hoopsworld is reporting KG's extension as 3 years, $30 mil, which means in 3 years, the c's will be out from under the contracts of allen, KG, and pierce. not a bad deal.
of course its not confirmed yet.

7. I actually did live in Boston for over 20 years before moving out to west coast. And being a minority I felt racism all around that city, its people, in schools and the corporate setting. Although must be honest, people did not throw things at me as you stated..LOL..
The comment would not have been posted had I not lived in the city and not experienced the bias firsthand.
Did the post hit a nerve or something?..LOL..

8. In defense of opp, growing up in Minnesota I always heard about the racism in Boston. Always is relative. It doesn't compare to the deep south, but the accusation is definately out there. That doesn't automatically make it true, I guess. Funny coming from the most liberal state in the union.
Anyway, the latest news on Garnett that I've seen is that Gomes and 2 1st round picks may replace Jefferson. Ouch.
Whatever happens, Garnett is one of the class guys in all of sports. I wish him the best.

10. I can't imagine that KG who will be making 22Mil this year, and 23Mil next year would sign a THREE year extension making "only" 10Mil per. Sorry. I heard somewhere else that it's closer to 9 figures.

14. As a T-Wolves fan...opps sorry KG fan... I hope him the best and can only wish a ring for him. To the T-Wolves another horrible move in the front office, the wrong person is leaving Minnesota and along with another fan.

17. This is a great deal. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know hoops.
I applaud Ainge for finally making a run and shedding guys who had the "potential" moniker for too long and gettng some guys who are the real deal.
KG is a warrior and an intimidator and he will feast on the East. Combine this with Pierce being able to be the slasher he was born to be; and Ray Allen - the best long range shooter in the league. Bingo the Celts are fun to watch. Guess what - all 3 of these guys are HUNGRY NOW and their games compliment each other's perfectly.
Remember KG was a beast with Cassell and Sprewell - with Allen and Pierce no telling how good he'll be.
Al Jeff wasnt all that - how many games has he missed since being in the league? Gerald Green -still very green. Seriously are either of these guys the starter on a championship team? NO - not now, probabaly ever.
If Rondo can hit a jumper - this team has enough to beat anyone in the East.
I for one am elated to see a contender, rather than another pretender. Cm'n guys its KEVIN GARNETT !! Get pumped!

18. Hey "opp" screw you Boston isn't that racist. Have you ever lived here? Boston fans love Manny,David Ortiz,Troy Brown,Robert Parrish, ect. And we have ALOT of ethic resturants that you see whites in. So if you never lived here the shut the f--k up!

19. I've been a Celtics fan for about 40 years, and lived in Boston for 13 in the 70's and through the 80's. I come from Havlicek, Cowens, JoJo White, Don Chaney and Paul Silas...and followed them through Bird, Parrish, Mchale, Dennis Johnson and Cedric Maxwell. To say nothing of going all the way back to Sam and KC Jones ("The Jones Boys")and Bill Russell (yeah, Russell was at the forefront of "racist" allegations, but who's loved more from the past than that name?)
I went to Boston with an open heart, adn saw pigs lining both sides of the race divide. I thought it was abhorent then, and still do. I think you should just give your boys a very small amount of time and you'll see they'll be embraced by all.

20. Boston can't be a racist city.
It's run 100% by liberal Democrats--that would mean all those voters voting in all the Democrats are racists. Democrats own all Congressmen in DC, Mayor of Boston, Governor, Treasurer, 141-19 in the Mass House, and 35-5 in the Mass Senate.
Democrats must be racist.
