The Tigers didn't have the best weekend, but Sunday night it got even worse. After being swept by the Angels in a three game series in Los Angeles, the Tigers found out they'd be without Kenny Rogers for the next few weeks. With less than 48 hours left before the non-waiver trading deadline, the Tigers made the kind of pitching move they neither wanted nor planned to make. Instead of starting Monday's series opener at Oakland, Kenny Rogers is going on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation. It's the second time Rogers has been placed on the disabled list this season, but it's only the third time Kenny's been on it in his 19-year career.
It should be noted though that this stint has absolutely nothing to do with the blood clot that caused Rogers to miss the first few months of the season.
Rogers was supposed to start tonight in Oakland, but he'll now be replaced by Jordan Tata who's been called up from Triple-A Toledo. Tata also spent the first few months of this season on the disabled list, and is 3-3 with a 3.29 ERA in eleven starts.
Still, with the Tigers amidst a four-game losing streak and clinging to their half game lead over Cleveland, an injury to Kenny Rogers is the last thing the Tigers needed right now. Actually, that's not true. It's the third worst thing that could have happened. They still have Jeremy Bonderman and Justin Verlander.
