Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style article aimed at informing Giants fans about the ongoings of the day. It combines reports from both the morning and afternoon practices.- As I mentioned yesterday when long snapper Ryan Kuehl suffered a leg injury, the Giants can't seem to escape the injury bug. Unfortunately, it sunk its fangs into another one today. Defensive back Kevin Dockery went down in the morning practice with a concussion that was so bad he couldn't even attend team meetings. Tom Coughlin claimed he was "real concerned" about it.
- Brandon Jacobs has come exactly as advertised so far. He appears to be very quick and quite decisive. He hits the holes hard without hesitation and has been bowling people over. That theme continued today when he completely demolished Gibril Wilson (or Antonio Pierce depending on what you read) in route to a score.
- Osi Umenyiora continued his dominance of Guy Whimper and David Diehl today. That's both good and bad for a variety of reasons. It's great to hear that Umenyiora is looking like a pro bowler, but it's bad to hear that Whimper is terrible and Diehl is struggling.
- Simeon Rice is still in New York, but has not yet signed a contract. I've read conflicting reports on this, but if he's still in town, I'd have to assume there is still a chance he'd sign. We probably won't know either way until tomorrow.
- Co-owner John Mara weighed in on the Michael Strahan situation today:
"(It) has been expressed to him that we want him back. Jerry (Reese) I think said that in no uncertain terms. I think he knows that we want him back. He's been one of the greatest players in franchise history. He's a sure-fire Hall of Famer. His career should end on a different note than this. And I think ultimately it will."Rapid Fire:
- The Giants may be working on a trick play that involves Sinorice Moss tossing up a pass following an end-around.
- Reggie Torbor stole the defensive show today.
- Take a deep breath, people. Mathias Kiwanuka had a good practice today!
- Justin Tuck got himself a sack this afternoon.
- Depending on what report you read, Eli Manning looked good today.

still not sold on Jacobs as a feature back. Time will tell, but I expect a good first half of the season for Brandon and than a tired young back being mediocre at best the rest of the way.

It's so early in camp that drawing conclusions about much is premature at best. From what I've heard here are a few conclusions that actually can be reached, even this early:
1) Smith is the real deal and catches anything near him;
2) Osi looks like he's headed to the Pro Bowl, barring injury;
3) Shockey looks like he really wants to step into a leadership role and may have matured to the point at which he will be a very positive influence on the field and in the locker room since no one questions his passion for the game;
4) The defense will be much more aggressive and put guys in position to make plays (and sometimes look really bad when they're beaten) and a lot of the personnel should play better in that system; and
5) Toomer is healthy and Tuck looks like he is almost fully recovered, which is great news for the team.
Everything else is noise at this point.

Osi is playing like a man possessed with the passion of a player who wants to make up for his phantom tackle of Vince Young last season. About injuries just hope the injured players have speedy recoveries and get ready for getting into action.
