Owning a professional sports franchise is not an easy thing to do. One prerequisite: tons of money. Another: the actual desire to throw all those worldly assets toward a sports franchise, something that if left uncompetitive will rarely make money, unless the name of the franchise is the Pittsburgh Pirates. So maybe Cubs fans should wait on Mark Cuban and trust someone a little bit closer to heart with their beloved north side franchise: themselves:
Majeski is a business owner and onetime trader in stocks and options here who is organizing a fan-based effort to buy the Chicago Cubs. His goal is to have the team owned by the masses, just like the Green Bay Packers."It's a proven model," he said. "And 98 years without a World Series [title], it's time to talk about new models."
He has formed 4 Fans Sake, now largely a public relations effort, to get his message out. But he said it's costing him "in the hundreds of thousands" of dollars to get to the next stage, the solicitation of money from the fans.
This is probably very unlikely to happen, but it's a neat idea nonetheless. Who wants to own the Cubs? I do, I do! You too?

The Cubs being owned by the fans is a longshot but it is better than having owners who will move their franchise from Chicago to another town if they don't get their dream stadium or a natural disaster.

I can assure you the Cubs will never relocate to another city. And yes, as a Cubs fan and a Wrigleyville resident, I would absolutely LOVE to see the fans own the team. That would be incredible.

While this sounds like an interesting idea, the other owners in MLB will never approve the sale of a team to it's fans.

The Tribune Company should never had bought the Cubs, because they don't know anything about baseball and the people they hired to run the operation didn't do much since they owned the team..Where did they end up at the seasons end each year the answer: No place except the BOTTOM...It reminds me when the CBS Corp bought the Yankees in the early 70's...So if the Fans want to BUY the CLUB all I can say is GOOD LUCK. Don't forget Chicago is a GREAT Sports town.

1 million shares at $1000 per share is $1 billion which should easily cover the price plus a year's operating expenses. Given the population of Chicago and all of the Cubs fans throughout the rest of the country, this seems possible even without financing. And unlike most cities, most Cubs fans won't want a new stadium.

This is a great idea. We as fans have been through ALOT through the years. Naturally the Cubs would stay in Chicago, and in Wrigley Field, but just to say that you can help in the winning of the Greatest Team by the Greatest Fans would be a dream come true!!!!
