I think I speak for most college football fans when I say that I feel awful about Tyrone Prothro's horrific injury in 2005. The Tide's most dynamic and electrifying playmaker, Prothro made the greatest catch of the year -- perhaps one of the greatest of all time --just three weeks prior to being dragged down late in a 31-3 blowout of the Florida Gators in Tuscaloosa. It was a freak accident, but Prothro suffered a terrible leg fracture and has since undergone three surgeries in an attempt to return to the field. His return was always doubtful at best, but hopes to see the wide receiver out on the gridiron again have dwindled to the smallest of slivers. Two years after the accident, Prothro has been granted a medical scholarship by the Crimson Tide. Nick Saban quoted in SportingNews.com:
"We do have a plan to try to continue further his rehabilitation and are hopeful he can come back and play football someday," Saban said. "The medical staff is 99.9 percent sure that this is a long-term issue we're dealing with and that it would be unusual for a guy to ever come back."We here at FanHouse wish Tyrone nothing but the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do next.

I hope for nothing but the best for Prothro. That USM catch was the best I've ever seen, bar none, and I remember watching him break his leg against Florida live. Horrific, horrific injury.

Tyrone Prothro will always be an inspiration for our team! I remember watching the Florida game and seeing his devastating injury. I went from utter shock and disbelief to an immense feeling of pride as he was taken off the field, waving the Tide faithful on and supporting his teammates. He never lost his spirit, even in so much pain! Tyrone Prothro is a first class athlete and person! Wishing you all the best Ty! This from one Bama fan who will never forget you! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

This young man was the heart and soul of the Bama team. His remarkable catch against USM is one that every football fan should remember forever. After his devastating injury he showed amazing determination and character. Even if he never plays football again, he's going to be a success in life, and a positive role model for young people to emulate.
