Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.- Sam Madison has had an odd training camp to date. Some days he resembles the Madison of old, while other days he resembles a Madison a year older and a year slower than the 2006 version. Today saw a bit of both, leaving more questions about his ability to start on this team.
- The Giants continued to suffer from their yearly injury onslaught this afternoon. Back-up tight end Darcy Johnson was the unfortunate victim today when he went down with a right knee injury. He had to be carter off the field, but late reports suggest that it "isn't serious."
- After having one of his better practices yesterday, Eli Manning came out and had a rough morning. Quite a few of his passes were sailing to no one, but he did end on a high note, tossing a touchdown in the two-minute drill. And, for the record, he came back and had a pretty good night practice.
- Anthony Mix had what Arthur Staple called one of the best catches of the morning when he dove in between three defenders to haul in a pass. Not a lot has been made of Mix during training camp and that's both a good and bad thing. It's good because it means he hasn't made many mistakes. It's bad because he has rarely made himself noticed for standing above the rest.
- What is with Guy Whimper? The man comes out and plays quite well in the preseason game against the Panthers, then is back to being a joke in Giants practice. Could it possibly be that he only does well in game situations? Barring an injury to David Diehl, that's not going to help his chances to start.
Rapid Fire:
- After a hot start, wide receiver Brandon London is playing his way out of a job.
- Plaxico Burress is still sitting out with an injury. This situation has flown under the radar so far, but it's starting to concern me.
- Wide receiver Kevin McMahan, another player having a quiet camp, finally stood out this morning. In fact, he had a hell of a morning.
- Entirely too many Giants sat out of the nightcap.

Sam Madison has struggled to play football for a few years now, including his time with the Dolphins. He used to ball hawk, but he's lost a lot of speed and can only effectively cover in short to medium coverage (where he can use his effective bump abilities).
