Mountaineer Offense Will Need to Score Lots of Points (Again)

In our Big East Preview for key position battles, the West Virginia cornerbacks were singled out for attention owing to the porous pass defense of the Mountaineers. One of the players expected to help was Ellis Lankster, a top JUCO cornerback. He and another player are facing some problems with transferring and receiving stolen property.
Junior cornerback Ellis Lankster and redshirt freshman linebacker J.T. Thomas were arrested by Morgantown police Saturday night, apparently after a computer that was reported stolen was found in Lankster's car. Thomas was also in the car at the time and claims to have bought the computer second-hand.
The players were arrested at nearly 2 am on Sunday. Coach Rich Rodriguez issued a brief statement saying he is investigating and that no determination will be made until "after all the facts are in."

Coach Rodriguez had issued an 11 pm curfew for the football team to keep them out of trouble that very day. Whoops.

As a result of the arrests neither player was in attendance at the Sunday Fan Fest. That would have been a bit awkward.

Both Lankster and Thomas had been scrimmaging and practicing with the first team defense prior to the incident. That's going to be a setback. Looks like WVU will once more be relying on the offense to just overwhelm opposing teams.
