The Philadelphia Eagles will announce that they have released linebacker Jeremiah Trotter today, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting.
Trotter started all 16 games for the Eagles last season, and it's a surprise that they let him go. Several teams are likely to be interested in Trotter as a free agent. The best bet might be the Giants, where his former position coach, Steve Spagnuolo, is now the defensive coordinator.Trotter, who has played in Philadelphia for seven of his nine NFL seasons, has registered over 100 tackles in six different seasons, including each of the last two. At 29, Trotter has been one of the Eagles' leaders on defense, along with safety Brian Dawkins.
Trotter was expected to anchor an improved Eagles linebacking corps with the off-season acquisition of Takeo Spikes.

the eagles have the most cold blooded, least loyal front office in all pro-sports. its disgusting how they treat people who give everything for that team. cutting guys who arent good or dont produce or are criminals are one thing. but trotter was just a season removed from a pro-bowl year and is 29. they draft a qb, basically spitting in mcnabb's face. the whole TO thing. TO, and mcnabb to a far lesser extent, were totally justified in going after the eagles. they may be efficiently run, but a more despicable front office in sports, there is none.

yeah this is ridiculous. I don't think picking Kolb was a shot at Mcnabb. Just a little foresight. The front office loves Super 5 and he knows hes the man as long as he wants to be. But back to Trotter. This is totally ridiculous. They could have at least kept him and used him sparingly. Who the hell is going to play in the middle?
you'll be missed Trot.

Trotter is nowhere near the player that he once was. Omar Gaither's time is now. Trotter is overrated

Trot was our worst LB in pass defense and only played on first and second downs. Take the blinders off and see him for what he is. The worst MLB in the NFC East

Trot is 30, not 29. Doesn't make a difference. I hope this doesn't come back to haunt them.

Your mistaken to think Trotter can be replaced on the Philadephia Eagles or any NFL team. He is a true team leader, captain, and a real story coming back to Philly. In this day of free agency you must at least enjoy seeing a guy with character come back and help lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl. He has led the LB's in tackles every season with the Eagles. I think some people are just haters. Andy should have kept him as the number 2 guy for at least his unquestionable leadership qualities. I thought the organization was all about that...oh yeah T.O., i guess its about the money. What a shame...

he def would have been very useful in sure fire run situations. but he is a liability against the pass. No one exposed him more than sean peyton in the playoff loss to the saints...

This is coming from a redskins fan. We had Trotter even though it didn't seem like it he was one of the better linbackers in the league. He is a leader and I hated him when he went back to the Eagles. We all should know the Eagles are not loyal to anyone. Not even Mcbabb.

I love the guy, but he's worn out. Yes, he's only 30...but he slowed down the last two years and look like he was pushing 40, not 30. His play really fell off. He's big and slow...and that's not what Jim Johnson is about. I think it's a good but tough move.

Loyalty? Is Andy Reid Trotter's coach or his wife? I've heard a lot about how short-sighted and brain dead Eagles fans are, and this is a prime example.
I'm not an Eagles fan in the least, but you have to admit that they are a very successful franchise. Part of that success stems from unsentimentally evaluating players and letting them go when their level of play no longer justifies their salary.
Trotter is washed up - not that it will stop some less successful franchise from overpaying for him.

I hate to see trot go, he was exciting, but he also was a liability. He did get burned in the passing game, and would often take risks against the run over shooting gaps and allowing running backs to run past him. He was great-especially in his first stint and in 04 05, but the past couple of years he hasn't been too great. I just hope they can find a suitable replacement sine I would like to see Spikes on the weakside. They had a difficult time in the past-does anyone remember Lavonne Kirkland and Mark Simenue-oohhhh, that was a tough time a MLB

Hey Spencer....dont comment on the team when you have no idea about us. The Eagles have to have a justifiable reason to cut Trotter (Reid actually brought trotter back after he left initially ya moron, so loyalty has no bearing on this decision). Are you that stupid to think that Reid and the Eagles organization cut Trotter because they have no loyalty to their players?? Cmon bro, you need to think before you blog my man. The details haven't been released but there is no reason to jump down the Eagles throat for making a move like this untill you find out the real reason why. Stick to your ESPN knowledge and stay away from the forums that actually follow the team closely....And you have the balls to bring up the T.O situation?? Please explain how the Eagles weren't "loyal" in that situation. And Marc Nelson, that moron definitely isn't an Eagles fan so relax on the "short sighted, brain dead talk." You also need to just stick to your basic ESPN knowledge. Trey wingo and Stuart scott only go so far buddy

I too was shocked at the release of trotter and I think that the Birds could've at least kept him to kinda groom, if you will, Gaither but that's why I'm here blogging, I'm just a fan, what do I know?? Good luck Trott, it's been real!

Eagles mgt. are collectively a dysfunctional bunch ; letting Garcia go after his remarkable performance last year is just an example of their muddled thinking.Looking at the Comcast TV panels are another examble of their poor judgement in personnel selection. They seem to part of a clan of some sort.

This is too bad I liked Trotter and he has been great for the Eagles.
Although this is not as harsh as the Patriots dumping Lawyer Milloy one week prior to the season - it still has to hurt.
Well at least Trotter has a chance to go to another team before the season begins.
Most teams could use a good middle linebacker.
But eventually it will depend on Trotter's health and if he is willing to be a back-up or starter before a contract could be negotiated.

Only time will tell when they start running up the gut on us. Trotter has lost a step but he was a leader on and off the field. Who know what really went on.
