After bringing in Simeon Rice for a look, the Titans have now talked to the other high profile free agent defensive lineman still on the market. But unlike Rice, Corey Simon comes with significantly more baggage. The knock on Rice is that he's a one-dimensional pass rusher who doesn't play the run effectively (he'll run his way out of the play in an attempt to pad his sack total). Simon's baggage is that something happened when he was in Indianapolis that led the Colts to decide they'd rather put him on the inactive list even though they had a glaring need for a run stuffer. Since cutting him the Colts have called signing Simon one of the biggest mistakes they've made in recent years.
It could be a case of Simon not fitting in with the Colts, or it could be the case that an overweight out of shape Simon is just not worth the trouble. The good news for the Titans is that with him still sitting out looking for a job, it wouldn't cost much to give Simon a chance. Rice still seems like a better fit, but then the Titans have the salary cap room to sign both of them if they want.
