Orson Swindle picked up on this over at Every Day Should Be Saturday, and the footage is originally from WIBW out of Topeka, but if you haven't seen Mark Mangino's reaction to Kansas freshman Raimond Pendleton diving into the end zone during the Jayhawk's 52-7 woodshedding of Central Michigan, then you need to watch this video (warning - explicit language):
I have a feeling that Mr. Pendleton will run into the end zone, set the ball down softly and run straight back to the bench the next time he scores, and I bet that Mangino's cardiologist was on the phone as soon as the game ended having a conversation with his patient about avoiding acute stress and anger.

1. Take a chill pill coach, you ego insane maniac.
You get paid millions and these kids get almost nothing and yet you feel the need to completely embarrass a player that likely busts his ass for you day in and day out and shows a little over-emotion on a killer run back.
Sure, admonish him at an appropriate time, but the tirade was unnecessary you fat bastard.
Have a ho ho and mellow!

2. Rob, you said it all man! The coach was definitely out of line. That's what's wrong with college sports today.

3. The COACH is what's wrong with college sports today? Are you kidding me??? Kudos Mangino, for not letting your players get away with the me-first attitude that is way too prevalent in all of society, especially big time sports. A little public humiliation is what that kid needed! I hope he gets another dose of that at practice in front of the team, and that the whole return unit runs laps as punishment. Maybe then he'll think twice before disgracing his team again.

4. I saw Reggie Bush do it numerous times at SC and not once was he berated by Pete Carroll.
Its college football, say it with me they're STUDENT athletes.
Its supposed to be fun, as long as it don't cost the team the game, you scored 6 live with the 15 yard penalty on the PAT.
What, does the kicker really suck?
And, how many times did the obese (not saying it to be mean but the guy is obviously obese) coach yell HOT DOG?
I think he was just pissed because he wanted a couple of Red Hots real bad.

5. The coach was spot on. The kid drew a stupid penalty all for personal glory and showboating. A good penalty is holding a guy who's going to sack the QB for a 15 yd loss. Showboating is UNSPORTING, childish, classless, and flat dumb. The kid got what he deserved and hopefully is smart enough to learn his lesson...don't hurt the team with these kinds of antics that rise to the level of public end zone masturbation.

6. I don't think the coach was that far out of line. The player was hotdogging it and showing off for the fans. The game is a team sport, the player did not score without the help of his teammates. Act like you have been there before.

7. I am glad the coach put one of these punks in their place. They were whooping up on a team 52-7 so the TD scorer's display was unsportsmanlike and unprofessional and reflected badly on the university. About time someone started to shut these punks up.

8. Chill, Coach, its a game supposed to be fun. If you don't want someone to showboat after a score, don't let them score. Maybe it was a little low class to dive into the end zone when you are beating up on an outclassed opponent but make the guy run gassers or the stadium steps during the next practice.
Reggie Bush used to do the dive after one of his spectacular runs so I always thought he could show off a little even though as a USC fan, I hated the fifteen yard penalty.

9. It amazes me that some people are defending the athelete. Celebrations with your teammates are always acceptable. Diving into the end zone in a blowout to draw attention to yourself is hotdogging. It is simply the me-first generation.

10. Since when was diving into the endzone unsportsmanlike? Not that I'm all for showing up your opponent, but big deal. Its not like he shoved the ball in another player's face or anything. Let the kids have fun. Its entertainment, nothing more. So entertain me.

11. The kid was wrong. He was celebrating his accomplishment, which is fine, but the opponent was clearly overmatched and the kid should have been more understanding and exhibited more restraint. Let he who has never been on the wrong end of an ass-whoopin' make the first endzone dive.
The coach was way, Way, WAAAAY overboard in his reaction. He could have calmly taken the young man aside and explained how the showboating was wrong and told him not to do that again. The kid still can be happy about his TD and still have respect for his coach. Now the kid no longer respects his coach (and rightfully so), his teammates no longer respect their coach, the University of Kansas is embarrassed nationally by incredibly unprofessional behavior by one of their most well paid employees, there will no doubt be a public apology, boosters will question their donations, the athletic director and university President will be making statements to the media and, in all likelihood, this coach isn't back next year. And for what? Because an 18 year old freshman made a brilliant play and finished it with a not-so-brilliant dive.
