Last week we mentioned that NBC's new NFL commentator, Keith Olbermann, made a pretty stupid commentary about Michael Vick. If you missed it, here it is:
Well, it turns out that Olbermann thinks it was a pretty stupid commentary, too. At halftime of tonight's game, Olbermann declared himself "the worst person in the NFL" and said of last week's commentary, "boy did I write that thing badly."
I'm still not entirely clear on what, exactly, Olbermann's opinion of Vick is, but it's good to know that he no longer stands by what was a pretty dumb opinion.
UPDATE: See the video and commentary on Olbermann's Vick retraction from Awful Announcing, The Big Lead and our own Ryan Wilson.

Oh dear god, is there ANY way to block Michael David Smith? Every time I see his rat face, I know that "Vick" will be in the headline. For some reason, I come to the Falcons blog for Falcons info. I don't care what people say about a QB who will not be at our games. Is there a possible way to get ANY information about the cuts from last week? Maybe our practice squad? Maybe Jason Snelling getting cut for some RB named Pittner? I know Snelling isn't Vick, but he had the most carries in pre-season. Maybe the depth chart Michael David Smith? Which crappy WR do we have running along side Joe Horn? I'll give you a hint, it is not anyone named Vick.
Who cares if someone restates what they said about the QB we had last season? Please remove Falcons from all of your posts.
I would love to get some information about football if at all possible, on this football blog. I don't care what Keith Olbermann has to say about Vick, or if he retracts that. I also don't care what Whoopi Goldberg thinks about this, or anyone. After the first 1,000 opinions, I DON'T CARE. PLEASE POST FOOTBALL.

It's amazing how someone as blatantly STUPID as Olbermann manages to hold down a job, a television job no less. Does this idiot think that the public outrage against Vick is unwarranted? Incredible! Maybe Olbermann would want Hitler back as soon as possible after serving a year in jail. NBC should fire this moron ASAP.

Response to Luigi999:
Are you actually comparing Vick to Hitler?
My god, I don't even have a reason to argue with you, because you are past help. A few dogs, and over 12 million dead people are totally different. Hitler never just spent a year in jail. You moron. There is only so many ways I can manage to put into words how offensive the crap you put up has turned out to be. Unless a million jews equals a dog or something. But great point.
How about football now?

The best part was seeing Cris Collingsworth slap the giant ego that is Keith Olbermann. He asked him if he'd be apologizing for his commentaries every week from now on.
Fearless prediction: Olbermann won't make it to a Season 2 with the NFL. The fans hate him, his co-workers hate him, and his act (and it's such an act) ain't going to cut it on primetime.

luigi, I think the public outrage against Mr Vick is COMPLETELY unwarranted - and unlike Olbermann, I stand up for him and dont retract a damned thing!
With all the HUMAN suffering in the world, for people to have hissy fits over DOGS is just ridiculous - perverse and stupid! I dont hate dogs, but really, putting them on tne same level as humans in importance - well, CONTEMPT is the only proper response to that kind of misanthropy!
Dogfighting is a HUGE underground sport in america, worth MILLIONS of dollars - and MICHAEL VICK is the ONLY one being attacked for it? What about the thousands of OTHERS taking part in it? And dont bother saying race has nothing to do with it because you know it DOES as well as i do!
You dogworshippers need to grow up - the ONLY time ive encountered this racist hatred directed towards Mr Vick has been on the INTERNET - go out on the STREET and people who take part in the REAL world support him - THEY have the sense to make a distinction between dogs and humans!
You people all eat meat, dont you? Does the suffering of cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys bother you, because they certainly DO suffer in factory farms and slaughterhouses? And dont try to say "but that's different, its not for sport" - the animals suffer just the same! Look at hunting - do deer suffer less having bullets tear into their bodies than dogs do fighting?
"But that's all LEGAL", you'll whine - well, SO WHAT? Cruelty is cruelty, isnt it? And considering how corrupt and dishonest the legal system in this country is and has always been,am i supposed to put it on a pedestal NOW?
Dogfighting is not going to be stamped out, no matter how much Ms Ingrid "a rat is a cat is a dog is a boy" Newkirk cries about it! Prostitution and drugs are "illegal" too - is that stopping either one? When people WANT and ENJOY something, it'll continue! Get used to that and leave Mr Vick alone!
JAIL? When murderers like Mary Winkler can walk awy with almost no punishment? HELL NO - at most he should pay a fine and get probation and NO MORE!
And I certainly hope he plays football again - and when he does he'll have a huge amount of SUPPORT!

ARNIE, i dont hate keith olbermann - i think his show is excellent! its too bad he was PRESSURED by his employers into retracting what he said about Michael Vick!
Typical of the cowardly gutless media in this country, the people who were AFRAID to express any kind of opposition to the war in iraq when it started, even though a lot people in the media probably knew the bush's administrations "reasons" for going to war were all lies!

I always sort of chuckle at message board comments by unhinged, deranged types that, regardless of the subject at hand, turn for some reason into a diatribe against the president and/or the war.
Ray, you do realize this speaks of some kind of mental illness or something on YOUR part, right? have you considered counseling for your problem?

This comment doesn't make any sense. This is not an either/or situation.
NORMAL people feel compassion for both humans and animals. They don't have limited compassion.
You must have a problem with your emotional makeup if you cannot understand that cruelty to animals, while not on the same level as cruelty to human beings, is wrong, unjustified, and should be stopped ... and the perpetrators punished.
Most serial killers start out by torturing animals. Cruelty breeds cruelty.

miss led, CHILDREN who start out torturing animals often become serial killers! Michael Vick wasnt torturing animals any more than people working in slaughterhouses - do you think THEY are potential serial killers too? Use some common sense - Michael Vick is no murderer! Dog breeders routinely kill puppies they dont want - are you going to compare them to Charles Manson?

well, kustie the klown, for you to name yourself after a cartoon character demonstrates your level of intelligence - VERY LOW! No more needs to be said! The war in iraq DOES matter - a lot more than something as trivial as dogfighting - the fact YOU cant see that speaks volumes about your character!

ERS, you're a pathetic internet white racist with no life - you need to HATE something in order to make yourself feel alive - and right now Michael Vick is that something! Dont you sniveling idiots realize this story is OLD by now? Whether you like it or not, little CHILDREN, people in the REAL world - the world beyond the internet - do NOT agree with you! No one I know does - but then I dont spend my time around pyschotic misthanropes - LOL! MOST people care about other things - but for YOU, Michael Vick is everything - maybe its not really HATE you feel, but OTHER emotions you'd rather not acknowledge - LOL LOL!

You need to do a better job, because your attempt was kind of lame.
Yeah guy, my comment indicates i have a lack of character or something LOL.
why do you even bother?

A couple of days ago, i was talking to someone (s aports fan) and the subject of michael vick came up - and the first thing he said was "these people eat meat every day and they have the nerve to attack michael vick!" See, for people in the REAL world, the cruelty involved in the processing of meat and the cruelty of dogfighting is comparable - why is it that everyone I talk to in the OUTSIDE world can see that and YOU little nuts cant? Could it be something's wrong with YOU?
When someone can post on here comparing Michael Vick's dogfighting activies with the crimes of Hitler, thus comparing the deaths of a few dogs with the deaths of millions of people, and only ONE person has the brains and the integrity to question that and properly label it as perversity and foolishness, while the rest of you just go with your hate/love obsession with Michael Vick - what else needs to be said? I wonder what kind of upbringing and education some of you have had, that you can devalue human life so easily and put dog lives up on a pedestal! Perhaps you've had bad experiences with people and so you trust dogs more -is that it?
SOMETHING is certainly wrong with you!

Don't fret everyone... Ray has been spewing his moronic comments on almost every Vick blog. Its unbelievable how dumb he continues to sound. At least 20 people sound off on him and point out how uneducated his correlations to eating meat and torturing dogs are. He wants to be Mike Vicks boyfriend....its that simple. Theres absolutely no other logical explanation as to why he is so adamantly defending this man. I find it hilarious that there are people that dumb in this world.

Response to Ray:
I'd like to addess the arguments you've presented here and, instead of approaching them from a position of anger (which is easy to do as you'd consider me a "dog-worshiping white racist" with an agenda), I'd like to forgo my emotions and present you with logical counter-arguments.
First, lets talk about the "unwarranted public outrage" mentioned in your first post that mysteriously "doesn't exist" by your 5th post. How can you claim that the public outrage is unwarranted in post #1 and then, in post #5, claim that everyone in the "real world" is aligned with the Vick Support party? If it's public outrage, isn't that like...the public...meaning all members of the community? This includes the internet, by the way. It's the newest fad in communication, Ray. It's not just for "white racists" anymore.
In classic segue fashion, let's move on to the topic of racism. It's my firm belief that many of the people pulling the race card where this case is concerned are some of the most racist people throw their arguments into the ring. I keep hearing "It's a cultural thing". I've heard it (dogfighting) attributed to Hip Hop, Urban, and Southern cultures. Jaime Foxx, Whoopi, and even the NAACP are responsible for making comments of this nature. They might as well have been saying dogfighting is a product of black adolescent culture. In fact, Foxx mentioned that Vick must not have read his handbook on how to be a black celebrity. Forgive me, Jaime, but this "rule" against dogfighting is found in every American citizen's handbook...it's called the law. Regardless of ethnicity, sex, religion, or sexual orientation (in some cases), the law is the law and, if broken, has consequences. What happened to accepting the consequences of ones actions? Why does some organization have to step up and "save" every celebrity that makes a mess in the media. Is Vick somehow less of a man than you or I that he's denied the right of ownership of his own screw ups (see racism)? Vick is vilified in the media because he's a celebrity not because he's a black celebrity and, while I agree every level of participation in this horrible act should be targeted, celebrity involvement takes precedence over Joe Blow in the media.
Now to confront your supporting argument of Deer Hunting and eating meat. I personally don't hunt and don't eat meat but have several friends that do.
Deer hunting is a regulated "sport" in place to perpetuate the species through control.
Without hunting, the deer population would boom lowering food supplies, create a public nuisance, and eventually lead to the decline or extinction of the species. Limits are posted every season to ensure the right amount are hunted and that the animals are not "harvested" in excess. FYI - Poaching is a serious crime with serious penalties. Oh yeah...the deer can run away.
While I agree that animals on factory farms are treated cruelly, I believe the comparison of raising animals for sustenance and raising them to tear eachother apart for entertainment is almost as far-fetched as likening Vick to Hitler. Vick plead guilty to all the charges except gambling which leads me to believe that he's either lying (again) or he simply watches animals brutally maul one another and "executes" the ones that don't perform well for the sheer entertainment of it all. I'm certain that anyone who eats meat and really thinks about what that animal went through to feed him/her feels a little remorse or at least respects it. In Vick's case, I hope he's just a liar and doesn't really find joy in what he's done.
In closing, I think Vick and anyone else involved in dogfighting deserves the couple years in jail regardless of race or status, I think the people that excuse what he's done based on "culture" are more racist than the people they throw the race card at, and I think people on the internet (you know, the ones that don't exist in the "real world") should do more research before arguing. In some cases, it's better to have your opponent understand your argument rather than trying to beat the support out of them.
I'm off to worship dogs and burn crosses...

I totally agree with Miss Led, unlike ray, most humans are capable of having compassion for animals and humans. What a pathetic human he is for his lack of empathy for their suffering both emotionally and physically. Maybe ers is right, ray is in love w/vick and vick has become the "object of his desire". I too like Eric, am off to worship and adore my dog and all other dogs.

Of the 50 or so dog owners I know, only one of them has bothered to ever rescue a pooch from being euthanised. That means only a measly 2% of these people are actually 'doing' something about the thousands upon thousands of dogs being killed needlessly. I'll bet the national statistics aren't much different. Its easy to talk the talk. People want their expensive pedigreed pups, while perfectly lovable dogs are killed every day. I would hope that more 'dog lovers' would put their money where their mouth is. Its easy to talk about vicks brutality (which was horrendous), when another much more substantial tragedy takes place every day thousands of times, in every neighborhood. I'm not impressed by people who only pass judgement on others who haven't done everything to support their own belief system. Have you done all you can do? Who has?
