I think I might like this Nike commercial, starring Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman and Rams running back Steven Jackson, even more than the one with LaDainian Tomlinson running through the Bears' defense:
Awful Announcing reports that Michael Mann directed it and the music is from Last of the Mohicans. Nike is obviously putting real thought (and real money) into the artistry of its commercials, and it's paying off with some high-quality stuff.

I completely agree, he cheated and he benefited from it.
He's managed to side-step the usual negative press associated with steroid users.
Maybe if they replaced him with Jason Taylor...
Commercial is sweet, especially when its on tv (video quality of this vid was awful).

Merriman is the only guy to use steroids???
He tested positive once, and most of the other steroid suspensions (check your local team's roster - there are a few) tested at least twice. He says it was a suppliment. I used to work at an upscale gym in La Jolla - high-end weight gainer and performance enhancers were inconsistent to say the least. Maybe he's guilty, but he's got lots of company.

Love the commercial, but agree that Merriman should not be celebrated.
I don't care how many times a player is caught. Fact is he was caught. Don’t tell me a professional athlete doesn't know exactly what he/she is putting into their body in today’s world? I'm not that naive.
I think the point of post #1 was that no one seems to care that Merriman was caught, not that he was the only one caught. There are a number of players who have tested positive, but you don’t see any of them in Nike ads either.
Who is Nike Football’s target audience? Not the typical fat slob football fan that has no use for a $100 pair football cleats or a $40 pair of WR gloves. They're targeting kids. To me, the message of that commercial is: Use steroids and be like Shawne Merriman.
I’m all for second chances, but don’t market a cheater to the children of this country.

When did Merriman test positive? It was during the offseason, sometime in August. But test results came out during midseason. Every test after that, he was clean (22 out of 23, i believe). So from the first week of the season to the last week, he was clean. If he was cheating, i think he would've done it during the regular season.
His rookie year, did an excellent job, surely he was tested, and yet nothing came up.

In regards to comment #5, this commercial is not promoting steroid use to young people, but the fact that in the sport of Football, there are but two things to do, keep fighting, and no matter what happens, NEVER give up. That simple idea is displayed in both the determination and will power of Jackson and Merriman. I think this is a great commercial for young athletes like myself and I bet more young athletes look at this commercial and say, "wow, that's quite impressive" rather than something to regards of Merriman's steroid use.

I don't care what players are featured. I don't care if they play for your home team or your biggest rival's team. It doesn't matter which athlete they're showcasing, you have to admit that this is a VERY well made, albeit, short bit of film artistry.

I wouldn't be surprised if Merriman got a Roid hook up from teammate Luis castillo. Remember that cheat? He's the chump that knowingly took steroids before the combine because he was hurt and needed to impress the scouts. What was the punishment for this cheater? He was drafted in the 1st round. Can someone please tell me what the background music is. I know I've heard it before.

Based on intense fan feedback Shawne Merriman has been removed from the Nike commercial. Apparently one too many people was upset about his steroid use.

You know, I find it somewhat funny how sore people get whenever Merriman's name is brought up. That number up in Comment #7: 22 of 23 times clean, I'm willing to look at that and say "You know, that probably was a bad supplement" Of course, some people just hate the fact that he has become THE premier defensive player in the league so much that they'll look at some glitch in the system and discount everything he does. Well, unfortunately for you people, in the end, Merriman will still knock your guy down, and the scoreboard won't correct itself for some positive test last year.
Oh, and I saw the commercial earlier today, it still features Merriman. It's just that they needed a few 30 second spots, so they split the ad in two, so now sometimes you'll only see Merriman, sometimes you'll only see Jackson, and sometimes (When you're lucky) you'll see the whole minute long commercial. Such an amazing ad, I applaud Nike for this one.

at the end of the commercial, steven jackson gets stacked up and #4 runs in.... #4?!
there isn't a #4 on the steelers... and even if they were, he would be a kicker, a punter or a quarterback... why would he be on the goal line trying to stop steven jackson from scoring???

upon further examination... there is no #41 on the steelers either... but at least 41 could be a linebacker.
I can't imagine a scenerio where this would be feasible... even if steven jackson was returning a punt and the punter was the last person to beat, there wouldn't be a group of defenders stacked up at the goal line.
I know Mike Tomlin is no Bill Cower, but I don't think he would put a fake punter in his goal line defense.
hey Nike, what's the deal?

Question. Why is it that everyone keeps on hyping up the fact that he unknowingly took a tainted supplement? Do you all not know how to forgive?? I happened one time! He was clean before, he's clean now!! Hello!!!! And even if he is 'guilty' let me pose this question to you, if you cheated on your wife would you appreciate her reminding you everyday, all the time, every waking moment of your life???........Don't worry I can wait.........No!!!!!!! So please, please stop hating this man because he runs through your quarterbacks like they are invisible.
