Junior Seau to Double as Goal-Line Fullback

If you watched the highlights of the Patriots/Jets game over the weekend, you may have caught a play where linebacker Junior Seau lined up at fullback. It was a goal-line situation for the Pats, and Bill Belichick says it's a pattern we can expect to see throughout the year:
Belichick indicated he and Seau talked during spring camp about the possibility of using the linebacker as a fullback on goal-line situations and explained the reason it makes sense.

"I think Junior's kind of a natural fit," Belichick said. "That's kind of what the linebacker has to do on defense, see the hole on the goal line and get in it. That's what the fullback has to do, see the hole and meet the linebacker.

Belichick has used Richard Seymour, Bryan Cox, and Russ Hochstein in that role.

Well, it's not quite a Refrigerator Perry situation, but it seems pretty exciting. That's the thing about Belichick -- he's always looking for an edge, whether it's through alleged videotaping, or by creating versatility amongst his players. You may only get to dress 53 players on Sundays, but Belichick certainly knows how to make the most of them.
