Cowboys Overtake Redskins As Forbes Most Valuable Franchise

Forbes has rated the value of all 32 NFL franchises and ... for the first time in 8 years ... the Washington Redskins aren't atop the list. It is the Dallas Cowboys, whose worth climbed to $1.5 billion, that leads the pack. The Redskins were just behind at $1.46 billion. The New England Patriots were a distant 3rd at $1.19 billion.

The Cowboys got a huge bump from the fact that their new stadium is on the way.

The new monster facility in Arlington, Texas, has over 200 suites leasing for more than $350,000 a year. Stadium sponsorships should bring in another $50 million. These numbers are important, because in the NFL, national television, ticket and licensing revenue is shared equally among the 32 teams, but the home team keeps all the suite and stadium sponsorship money.

Another plus for Jones: Surrounding the new stadium will be Glorypark, a residential, retail and office complex that will keep the buzz and money flowing all year. Also, with deft maneuvering, Jones already got the league to let his stadium host the 2011 Super Bowl.
Stadiums are where the money's at. The Giants and Jets expect a nice bump as their new stadium is nearing completion. And it's no wonder that the bottom teams on the list [Vikings, Falcons, Niners, Jaguars, Raiders, Bills, Chargers and Saints] play in aging buildings that are either being replaced or have been revamped [aside from the Georgia Dome really isn't that old].
