All week long, people in Cincinnati were going on and on about the defensive effort against the Ravens on Monday night. I doubt that will be the case this week after the Bengals lost to the Browns, 51-45.
How in the heck do you give up 51 points to the Cleveland Browns? How do you let Browns' QB Derek Anderson complete 20-of-33 passes for 328 yards and ... gulp ... 5 touchdown passes!?!?! I mean, Cleveland traded Week 1 starter Charlie Frye for change this past week, and the guy that he beat out in the preseason dumps 5 TD tosses on you?
And it wasn't just the pass defense. The Bengals allowed Jamal Lewis to run for 215 yards ... including a 66 yard TD romp. Cincy allowed 554 yards of offense to a team that mustered just 221 last week in Pittsburgh.
I mean, Cleveland's defense stunk too. They gave up 45 points, 531 total yards, 6 TD passes from Carson Palmer and 209 receiving yards to Chad Johnson, who fullfilled his promise of jumping into the Dawg Pound after scoring his 2nd TD of the day [as you can see in the pic, they didn't like that very much]. However, we expected that coming into this game.
Marvin Lewis and Romeo Crennell have both been defensive coordinators for Super Bowl winning teams [Ravens and Patriots, respectively]. Yet, as head coaches ... their franchises haven't figured out how to apply their knowledge. For Cleveland, it just joins a list of problems to deal with. For Cincinnati, it's what is preventing them from being an elite team.
Final Score: Browns 51-Bengals 45.

Am I the only one who realizes the bengals haven't had a defense for 10+ years????????? They have been my favorite team since birth but come on already. Enough is enough. It gets old watching you lose because of your defense.. Really, Really, OLD. Start putting peoples jobs on the line and I bet you will see a differance. I am sure there are hundreds of outstanding players who would be willing to make league minimum to get a chance to play. Wake up and smell the freakin coffee!!!!!!

That says a whole lot about its former QB Frye and it also says a lot about the Steelers and the Bengals.

the bungels and the brownies both showed they can score against very mediocre defenses.with defenses such as theirs other teams such as the steelers and the ravens will rule this division for several years

Isn't it funny that former two defensive coordinators of Super Bowl teams are unable to be successful head coaches and have defenses that make the Saints look like Doomsday by comparison.

Ugly! God Awefully so! It's not just that they were gouged by the lowly Browns, but the Bengals were so out of position all day it looked as if they were just playing together for the first time!! I recall last year a player's poll in SI. In a poll of nearly 500 NFL players 18% voted that Marvin Lewis had the best defensive mind in football!! How on EARTH that could ever be is beyond me!! I would be happy just to see a defense that lines up in the right spots, runs to the right areas, covers the right man (or someone, anyone), and can wrap up a tackle. Defensive genius my foot!! It will be a shame that such a window of time, with the Johnson's, TJ, Palmer, will not compete for a championship because their defensive genius of a coach can't even put a fundamentally sound defense on the field, in 5 years!! Thank god they do have enough offense to keep them around .500. Though only two games a season does not make (it takes 4 or so games to really get a good feel for where each team is at, and you can never account for injuries that might come yet) I can't say that I disagree with Mr. Walters prediction above, at this point, though revised as follows (barring injuries):
1. Pittsburgh
2. Cincinnati
3. Baltimore
4. Cleveland

where the hell you been? I figured you were at the game. Long ride home huh. I have been there before, it sucks. Yes I will get on here after the games and talk senseless sarcastic smack. Its all part of it. LOL
I still say when your leader (in this case the coach) is an immoral creep, no matter what is done right, there will be no success.
Hey man I'm thinking about coming to Cinci when we play there. I want that beer you promised.
Also get used to the standings, thats where they will stay.
1. Pittsburgh
2. Baltimore
3. Cleveland
4. Cinci

Nah Bill, I didn't travel to Cleveland to watch this one. Even in a bad season (not conceding that quite yet, but it sure isn't going to be pretty with our D), at least there is always the two Pittsburgh games to play for. Even a 4-12 campaign is at least palatable if we let some air out of the Steelers along the way. You betcha, come on over to Cinci when we play the Steelers and I will gladly buy you a beer or two. There are usually Steeler fans in my section, and there is a bit of smack talking, good natured ribbing, but no one gets too carried away. It's not like the Steeler fans get beat up in the stands or anything close to that. Again, I have seen many a season at week 2 turn completely around by week 10, and it really does take several weeks to see where teams really are. But at the two game mark I would say the Steelers have played better than I expected them to and are looking pretty good to win in a division where no one else looks capable of stepping up and asserting themselves. Aaah, but that's why the play 16 instead of just 2.

Yeah way to early to get on any high horse. I'm not thrilled with Bens performance I hold my breath on every snap. Won't be long and he will hit DB's squarely in the chest especially if his passes remain BEHIND the receivers.
AFC north??????????? Anything can happen over the next fifteen weeks. All these teams will get on track and I still say its the best damn division in the league. Which makes me hate Cleveland, Cinci and Baltimore. LOL
Who dey can and probably will be right back in it.

I hope they can get it righted. Seems the Bengals rise or lower to the level of their competition, and that, to me, is a hallmark of poor coaching. Not having them ready to play hard in every game, against every opponent. As I expected, here in Cinci there are already calls for defensive coordinator Chuck Breshnehan's head. He has had ample time to get it together, but this is a repeat year after year (and a year after they finished 30th in defense). If the Browns can torch them for 51, I can't imagine what a Pittsburgh, New England, or even Seattle next week might do to them. The D, and their coach, needs their butts ripped but good!! Such a laughingstock against the Browns it give us Bengal fans no room to argue or make excuses. They plainly suck(ed),....bad!

I wouldn't blame your defense, the dawgs offense is terrific; look they scored 3 points on the steelers.
