There will be a handful of key players missing from the starting lineups of both the Jets and Ravens when they take the field at 4:15 this afternoon. There will also be several other players who will be in uniform at M&T Bank Stadium but dealing with aches and pains that could limit their productivity. The team that comes out on top today will be the team that works around the missing pieces most effectively. The Jets still haven't announced their starting quarterback. Chad Pennington only had one full day of practice this week but looked healthy and will be a game-time decision. Two cornerbacks, Andre Dyson and Justin Miller, are listed as questionable. Dyson didn't play last week against the Patriots and will probably miss his second straight game with a foot injury. Miller did play, poorly, last Sunday and if he can't go the Jets will be quite shorthanded in the secondary. If he does suit up his thigh injury will likely preclude any fireworks in the return game from last year's Pro Bowl returner. Guard Brandon Moore and tailback Thomas Jones are also questionable but each is expected to start.
The Ravens' quarterback situation isn't any clearer than New York's. Steve McNair didn't practice at all this week but hasn't been definitively ruled out. Expect Kyle Boller to take the snaps for Brian Billick's club today. Jonathan Ogden won't be in the lineup, a major blow to Baltimore's offensive line, and the backup tight end Daniel Wilcox will also miss today's game. The Ravens defense will get Ray Lewis back today but he, Ed Reed and Samari Rolle each missed practice time this week and are going to be at less than 100%. If any of them aggravates their injury today it would open a door for the Jets offense.
