Steelers' Harrison Carted Off with Neck Injury

This is something you never want to see, but it's even worse coming only a week after the Kevin Everett injury. James Harrison, the Steelers starting right outside linebacker, was carted off on a stretcher immobilized on a backboard with an apparent neck/spine injury. The trainers cut off his facemask, but left his helmet on while strapping him down to the stretcher before taking him off the field.

Apparently the doctors worked on Harrison for nearly 10 minutes to get him off the field, as CBS reported that Harrison was taken off near the end of halftime. The injury occurred on the final play of the first half as Harrison was thrown to the ground by a block by Bills tight end Robert Royal. As he was going down his head struck Casey Hampton's butt. The good news is that CBS reported that Harrison was seen moving his arms, and he could be seen talking while being carted off the field. While the Everett injury is obviously in everyone's mind, the reality is that team doctors immobilize the spinal column during any neck injury, so hopefully Harrison is OK and it's just a precautionary measure. But it's a scary sight for the Steelers and it has to be doubly so for the Bills players, who just went through this a week ago with Everett.

Update: It seems that Harrison is OK. He returned to the sideline under his own power, so it looks like it was a scary, but thankfully, minor injury. He's still wearing his pads and looks like he might even return to action.
