2007 has been a year of baseball milestones. 761 homers (and counting) for Barry Bonds. 3,000 hits for Craig Biggio and 3,000 strikeouts for Pedro Martinez. 600 homers for Sammy Sosa and 500 homers for Frank Thomas, Alex Rodriguez already with Jim Thome close to joining. 500 saves for Trevor Hoffman. 300 wins for Tom Glavine and 350 for Roger Clemens. Honestly, I can't remember a year quite like this. Tonight, we can add one more milestone onto the list, no matter how dubious it is. The Pittsburgh Pirates lost their 82nd game tonight, clinching their fifteenth consecutive losing season, the second longest franchise losing streak in all of sports and only one year shy of the record set by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 30s and 40s. Best of all, they did it in typical Pirate fashion by blowing a 5-0 lead and watching one of their former players (Ty Wigginton) launch two homers against them.
Below I've compiled a gallery with a picture from each of the past 15 years, showing players that have gotten the Pirates to this point and some of my memories of them. I would say I hope you'll enjoy it, but if you're a Pirate fan it probably won't do much other than promote self-loathing.
