Just a year ago, Jeff Fisher was thought to be on very shaky ground in Tennessee. The Super Bowl appearance seemed a distant memory, and it appeared that the Titans wanted to find a different coach to direct rebuilding the franchise. But that was before Vince Young arrived. Young helped lead the Titans to an 8-8 record last year, and in the process assured that Fisher would stick around Nashville for years. After months of speculation Fisher has reached a contract extension that should ensure he sticks around Tennessee through 2013, the Tennessean is reporting.
Fisher's deal is expected to pay him around $5.5 million a year, which is near the top end for NFL head coaches. It's encouraging to see the Titans stick with Fisher, who's proven himself to be one of the best, and most even-keeled coaches, in the league. He's managed to succeed while turning over the roster almost completely three times, and
with Young at quarterback it's not hard to imagine the Titans are on the upswing again, although they may still be a year away from returning to the playoffs.
