The New York Post has a unique way of doing things, to say the least, and the latest example comes from the NFL standings in the paper's sports section. Columnist Mark Cannizzaro explains why they've put an asterisk next to the New England Patriots:
The pervasive fallout from Belichick's Spy-Gate conviction is this: For every one of the three Super Bowls he won with New England and for every genius coaching move he's made along the way, he has now added an asterisk the size of the one that will forever sit next to Barry Bonds' name in the baseball record book. The above image comes from the early Monday editions that didn't have the results of the Patriots' victory over the Chargers; later editions updated the record to 2-0 but kept the asterisk.
Although I personally think putting an asterisk next to any sports record -- whether it's Roger Maris or Barry Bonds or the Patriots -- is stupid, I have to admit, that's kinda funny.

I'm skeptical about whether or not that's genuine, since usually the asterisk represents a game that ended too late to meet the printing deadline. If it appeared following the 2-0, why wasn't a picture of that posted as well(Not referring to the Fanhouse, but the original site)?

Sounds like a doctored photo, or just another disgruntled fanbase finding something to bitch about.
Half the outcry over this tape situation is just hates trying to latch on to anything to bring down the most dominant team of the decade.
Predictable, yes. And pathetic. (Especially when the 24 hour media feeds right into this falsified sentiment).

i think its nice, i also believe they need to add an asterisk on their jerseys next to the names, and bilicheat needs to have a big asterisk on his chest

It is mildly clever for this single game, although when the Patriots are 10-2 after Week 13, as expected, a *10-2 asterisk will no longer be fair to the players nor funny. Nor will it continue to be hilarious to the New York faithful when Mangini, who BTW never chose to resign his position with the Patriots despite what he now considers appalling sign-stealing tactics, gets himself caught doing something illegal. Which is an absolute lock to happen (and perhaps was already happening against the Ravens.) Any coach, especially a Belichick disciple, is always toeing the line of illegality--or else they are not putting in the maximum effort to win. The NFL is a culture of coaches tearing their hair out 16 hours a day all year just to find a tiny competitive advantage, since most games are won or lost on 3 plays or less.

Remember the 49ers and Broncos, who cheated on the salary cap, and then won championships? Who is asking for THEIR rings back, or asterisks next to their championships?
Eric Mangini worked for the "cheater" and said nothing. His team was barking out signals on the line of scrimmage, an illegal tactic. Those hypocrite coaches and players better watch out. More "calling out" is to come. ALOT of people don't like Bill, but he has some friends around the league. They will be watching the Jets like hawks to root out "cheatin Eric". Every team will be calling out every other. This will make the Salem Witch trials look civil. Great work, Eric the moron.

Its Pretty bad when the idiots come out of the woodwork to add there two cents. All dominate tems have been attacked for there greatness. In the 60's it was GreenBay, in the 70's it was Pittsburgh, the 80's was San Fran, the 90' brought Dallas, now its New England thats on the chopping block. Greatness mean you win tough games throught all kinds of adversity, you concentrate on the game at hand each given week and you kick ass on that team.get over it people. Goodall has final say ,, not you jerks, and he has already punished New England already. The only difference now between the past is that other teams just havent been caught yet. If bullshit was money, with as much as its being spread around here, i could have retired 20 yrs ago

To #10,
If it was done to your team, you'd be crying like a little bee-atch. I live in Massachusetts and as a non local team rooter I can say first hand " it's only about the laundry". The same infraction would warrant execution if it was done to a NE. team. But if your team does it, all I hear is excustion and rationalitions.

Dumb or not it is a rule and THAT team had been warned already. Belli-chick thought he was above the rule and the commisioner. He should be punished at the team level if Kraft had the balls. So much for a CLASS organization!

Leave it to the anemic NY Post (should be PEst) to be one of the first ones to sing the cry-baby blues.
The first fact is that it was proven that the so-called spying (which all teams do in one fashion or another) had no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the NE-Jets game.
The second fact is that the NY PEst would cry if their nannys didn't wipe them well that morning.
What a second class (make that THIRD class) paper that is.
I wonder what they thought the Patriots did to beat the Chargers the following weekend but the same score?
Chintzy.

Now, understand that I think anyone who regularly reads or patronizes the NY Post is the definition of imbecile, so I'm not sure what the Post-and, specifically, Mr. Cannizzaro-has to say about the fact that, oh, for example, seven members of the 2000 WS champion NY Yankees are prominently named in the Mitchell Report? Because unless they're willing to do this:
*-1996-2000 Yankees
*-caught cheating
...then they're the biggest bunch of hypocrical frauds on the planet. Oh, wait, they are anyway-This is a Murdoch operation, after all. Calling them hypocritical frauds is an insult to hypocritical frauds everywhere, frankly.
Hope you choke on that crow, Mark.
