OK, maybe Bears coach Lovie Smith has finally figured out what he has to do. At his press conference today, Smith appeared to leave some wiggle room about who would start at quarterback for the Bears next week.As I say, we're evaluating our football team, talking about all positions. We'll watch the video, and Wednesday will be the day that we'll start getting ready for Detroit and that will tell you exactly where we are.
Of course I'm interested in what everybody thinks, we have great fans, but we make decisions on who gives us the best opportunity to win and that's at all positions, quarterback, every position.
On top of those comments, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported tonight, "I think they're going to be pulling the plug on Grossman." After last night's debacle against Dallas, it may finally be Brian Griese time.Will Rex Grossman start on Sunday? Our evaluation process is going on right now, if you go out on Wednesday [when the Bears are preparing for Detroit] you'll have a good idea of who will start on Sunday at all positions.

Lovie just has as much faith in Rex Grossman as Grady Little had with Pedro Martinez in that 2003 AL Championship series against the Yankees game 7 when the Red Sox blew a lead to their nemesis. Brian Griese should start next week or the Bears will be home for Christmas this season.

That's pretty close to what Lovie said after the last game of the 2004 season about Terry Shea, who was fired first thing in the morning on the Monday after the season ended. I think if you're translating Lovie-speak into English, it's hard to read that as anything but, "Rex Grossman just started his last game for my team."
