Cowboys coach Wade Phillips spent most of his press conference today dealing with the report from Peter King on HBO's Inside the NFL that he had said, "New England was caught cheating, and it is a black mark on their success."
"It's ludicrous to demean a team that did a great job, won all those games and deserve every bit of it," Phillips said.
According to Phillips, King went into the interview with an agenda to try to get him to say something negative about the Patriots and their former practice of video taping opposing coaches' signals, also known as Patriotgate.
"That was his agenda," Phillips said. "He went on and on about, 'This is a Watergate thing,' I mean that was his feelings on all of that stuff, and for some reason he thought I agreed with him, and I absolutely do not."
King and HBO have issued statements standing behind King's quote. But given Phillips' denial, King should offer a fuller explanation of the context in which Phillips gave the quote so that Inside the NFL viewers can decide for themselves what to believe.
Phillips' press conference can be viewed at DallasCowboys.com.

Peter King has been writing this stuff for WEEKS. And it's always, "Someone told me," But he won't say WHO. "I have to wonder," but NO EVIDENCE. Hey, pete, you ADMIT you are a JETS fan, so tell me, do you WONDER of the legitimacy of the Jets wins under Parcels, since they cheated when they stole the coach? You say you are offended by this, so, are you offended that a hall of fame running back like Curtis Martin came to your team because of the stolen coach? Oh, Mr.Conspiracy Theory, they were also accused of tampering in that case, too, but it was never proven. But after all, Petey, who needs PROOF??? You, and all the others can just claim conspiracy, and we will all feel better. The NFL says they Pats got no advantage from the tape, but who needs PROOF, right? they destroyed the tape because of people like YOU, with some kind of axe to grind, who would take any bit of evidence and turn it into a major crime, nut IGNORE all the other crimes. The Jets, Broncos, and 49ers don't offend you, but a video camera on the sidelines just gets you so upset, that you are beside yourself. Now, EVERY win, EVER is tainted. Forget proof, and all. No need for that.

Peter King, get a life. You are so transparnet it is pathetic. You sounded like a stammering fool on WEEI (Sports Radio in Boston) when you were challenged. Frankly you are just full of hot air. Every team steals signals. Hey Pete its called trying to get all the info you can. Read the Art of War, do you think that all of those coaches cover their mouths during the game because they don't want to spread germs? Grow up and grow a pair.

Beli-cheat is a black mark on the Patriot's "success." The cheating was worse than published. That's why the Goodell destroyed the evidence. If it came out it would undermind the entire league. I understand Beli-cheat has approached gangsta Vick in an effort to have him do some investigation of the prison system. That way when Beli-cheat's criminal activities in New Jersey come out he will know the easiest place to do time.

GreatR, you are too funny. The Broncos cheated the salary cap, and won a Super Bowl because of it. You see, they cheated the cap so they could sign some stiff named ELWAY. Do some time actually understanding a topic before you try pontificate on it. Your conspiracy theory is ridiculous. If there was a real conspiracy, the NFL would not have said the Pats violated the rules, to begin with, they would have said they agreed with BB's interpretation, but from now on, no matter what, you can't do it. That would have made it go away. But instead, they said they did violate the rules, but there was no advantage gained. But people like YOU take the half that says they violated the rules, and call it correct, and the part that says there was no advantage? Well, there must be some kind of conspiracy! Make no sense, except to people who refuse to think logically, to begin with.

FOR YOU FOLKS WHO DON'T KNOW THE N.F.L. RULES; YOU ARE ALLOWED TO FILM THE OPPOSING TEAMS' SIDELINES. YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT FROM THE BOOTH AND NOT THE FIELD. SO IF YOU CALL THAT CHEATING--DON'T FORGET TO CALL HOLDING,FALSE START AND PASS INTERFERENCE CHEATING ALSO.

THE REALLY SAD THING IS THAT MR. KING *SHOULD*
HAVE SAID WHAT WAS ATTRIBUTED TO HIM --AND FAR
MORE, IN MUCH STRONGER TERMS! PRO FOOTBALL IS *NOT*
A SPORT, IT'S A CUT-THROAT BUSINESS, AND AS SUCH
BEHAVES JUST AS UNETHICALLY AS THE REST OF THE
GIANT CORPORATIONS DO.
THERE'S A JOKE ABOUT POLITICIANS: HOW DO YOU KNOW
IF A POLITICIAN IS LYING? IF HE'S TALKING.
HERE'S A JOKE ABOUT BUSINESS HEADS: HOW DO YOU
KNOW IF THEY (CEO'S OR COACHES) ARE CHEATING?
IF THEY ARE BREATHING.
