Jets Woes Go Well Beyond Pennington

Here's how terrible, horrible, no good and very bad this Jets season has been - Chad Pennington is probably going to be replaced as the starting quarterback after his best game of the season. Pennington was 20-of-31 for 272 yards and three touchdowns, numbers that would normally be strong enough to keep a job. Yes, he threw a late pick that was returned for a touchdown in the final minute but that didn't cause the Jets loss.

It was a defensive line that gave up 130 yards to Kenny Watson. It was Darrelle Revis drawing two pass-interference penalties. It was Abram Elam taking a punch at Watson and getting a 15-yard flag. It was Ben Graham's 20-yard punt to give the Bengals great field position in the third and it was an offensive line that blew a snap and stopped doing its job in the second half. In other words, everyone has blood on their hands.

Yet at 1-6 and with only next year to play for it will likely be Pennington who pays for the loss with his job. He helped get them to this point and they need to find out if Kellen Clemens is the future so its hard to argue with that choice. Perhaps getting Pennington out of the way will allow the focus to shift to the myriad problems that have made the Jets a contender for the first overall draft pick and away from one guy who could only do so much.
