God, I love this idea. The Detroit News' Mike O'Hara thinks the NFL should auction off that first-round pick the Patriots lost for cheating. Whether or not you think NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's punishment was fair, O'Hara makes the point that the league's actions didn't address the groups most affected by New England's skullduggery: the 31 other teams.
So what to do? O'Hara explains:
[The lottery] should be the last pick in the first round, No. 32 overall. Each team should get a number of ping pong balls based on the won-lost record this year -- 31 chances for the worst record, one for the best.O'Hara goes on to write that the league should punish the Pats further by charging them the salary-cap value of the contract given "The Patriots Bonus Pick," roughly $2 million a year for five years. From an economic perspective, this is a much more efficient solution than some arbitrary punishment from Goodell. Plus, you can't beat the name. That alone is reason enough to give it a go.
There should be more sanctions, tied directly to the lottery pick. The NFL should televise the lottery drawing and call it "The Patriots Bonus Pick" all the way through the draft. Make it a week of shame.

2. Yaaaaawwwwnnnnn........
I'm sorry what did you say?
I'm a bit groggy from the late nights of Red Sox, BC, Celtics, Patriots, and hell even the Bruins late night wins.
Oh, the first round pick? Did we lose a pick? Hmpf, hadn't noticed.
Yaaaaaaawwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn.......
Just too many other good things going on right now around here to notice, sorry.
Eh, I'm not too worried about it anyway...
Streeeeetccccchhh.....sigh....
Wake me up when my Boston sports dominance dream is over...

3. The loss of a first round draft pick is excessive in anyone's book. A video camera was found in the first quarter of the first game. Big deal. Look at what they've done this year. The good thing is that a camera was not found in the 7th game. One can only imagine the over reaction.

4. Belichick is nothing less than a bloodsucker, he drains the life out of other teams who play an honest game. Tom Brady should have also been suspended, " to say the least ", hes just as guilty of this as Belichick is, infact he used the knowledge to take advantage of the other teams he played against.
Clearly, Goodell didnt punish their team enough as the evidence is still overwhelming to other teams. They cheated for so long they cant help themselves still to this day. Goodells idea's of policing the Players but not the owners nor the Coach's is ludicris. The white collar crime is just as rampant as the Players crimes, however, the Owners and Coach's are alot more sneaky about it.
I would be willing to bet a dozen freshly baked cookies that Brady and Belichick still have duplicate copys of all those defensive calls they recorded, and i also bet they still use them to this day.
I think Goodell should have suspended both Tom Brady and Belichick for the whole season and fined them both upwards of a million and yanked their superbowl wins and given them to the teams they beat in those games.
However lame it is, the Pats organization still manages to defeat every team they play. I wonder why that is? Does anybody think Brady could be sitting at home watching those films and remembering tose play calls? I mean after all it is home work isnt it? lol
Randy Moss should win his first ever superbowl ring, but the question will come up everytime somebody asks him, is it tainted?

5. #2
Just remember, NOTHING last forever. All of your NE/Boston teams will someday return to the pitful condition they were all in. So enjoy it while it last.

6. guru having those calls is okay because you can obtain them without the use of the camera (i.e. direct observation)
The question remains of a head coach who out right said yes cheat. I know it is against the rules and I say go ahead and do it. Add this up with the other allegations of headset malfunctions, dirty cheap blatant penalties when the defense is being beat and.......
You are right there will come a time (in the near future) when the honest players who are tarnished will have had enough and all will come into the open about belicreep the NFL's favorite cheat.
There is also a professional (ethic?) among coaches to not degrade another coach or player(except marvin lewis) but they do have integrity and will announce their grievances about suspected cheating by belicheat.
Right now the question isn't being spoken but wait until inductions for awards and players are scrutinized and possibly denied. Do you think belicreep will be protected then?

7. all of you new england team haters go ahead and hate us. the fact of the matter is new england is going to win the superbowl, the red sox are going to win the world series, the celtics may win the nba championship, the eagles may make it to the national title game, and the bruins may even make the playoffs. and yea they may suck in a couple years, but theyll be good in a few years after. larry its called the flow of sports, nobodys good every year, everybody has an off year or two. and as for the draft pick go ahead and take it, the 49er's are doing so bad right now the patriots may get a top 10 pick from their pick, so the patriots pick wont make any difference. if youve seen frmo belicheks work he can make 6th and 7th round picks into pro-bowlers. Guru, its a good thing you dont have "a dozen freshly baked cookies" because you would probably lose them. goodell made an example out of the patriots already, so hes done his homework as to do the patriots have any more tapes. they dont need tapes anyways, brady has been playing like a hall of famer this year, and its not because of the tapes.and finally the patriots' "scandal" has been over for a few weeks now, this no talent ass clown who wrote the artical is just trying to get national attention because he sucks as a writer and can't get it through legit articles. go ahead and say what you want, but the new england sports teams are dominating now, and the only people complaining are the haters.

8. okay shmojoe I take it that if (and thats a big if) the pats win the superbowl it negates bilicreeps actions.
And one thing bilcheat has no skill at is the draft

9. I don't know why everyone is making a huge deal of this. If you don't think the other 31 teams in the league don't tape as well.....YOU ARE WRONG!!!!! Everybody is trying to have the slightest edge all the way around.... guess what the patriots got caught.

10. hey bill walters maybe you should do your research before you put your foot in your mouth. in the past 6 years belichek has drafted richard seymour, matt light, daniel graham, deion branch, ty warren, eugene wilson, asante samuel, daniel koppen, vince wilfork, benjamin watson, logan makins, ellis hobbs, and laurence maroney. More than half of these players are still on the team and the major components of the team. And if belichek has no skill at the draft then why does espn always praise his skills every time new englands name is mentioned with the draft.
idiot

14. Hmm....GURU, I wonder if Brady is sitting at home watching duplicate tapes right now....doubt it. I would say he is celebrating, heh.
It is more likely that all of the other teams are sitting at home watching tapes of their opponents, that they made from their sideline. Even Parcells went so far as to admit (on national TV) that video taping from the side line is a common occurance in the NFL. Of course, he is not coaching at the moment so he can afford to be honest. As far as the other hipocritical whining coaches (as well as players and fans) still whining over "Spygate"...find something better to do.

15. joe shmo no need to apologize i know i can't write and my writing grammer sucks. Thats why I hire admin assistants for that work. However i don't have them edit my blogs. If you have a sincere question on what I wrote hit me up I'll try and explain it.
But belicheats efforts at the draft are a no brainier, he buys everyone else's players. A conglomerate of spaniels I presume.
Another reason the punishment is a joke.
Posted at 3:00PM on Oct 29th 2007 by Bill Walters
16. I'd buy players too if I had room under the cap and the drafts have sucked as bad as they have lately.
[NOT HIS PICKS BUT THE DRAFT IN TOTAL]
Why do they have so much room under the cap?

17. when the jets cried foul they opened a can of worms and the patriots are going to shove it down everbodies throat to show they did not need to cheat of course indy is the test if they get through that then the rest of the league better watch out cause patriots are coming and not looking back taking no prisoners
