Mike Lowell was named World Series MVP after batting .400 during the four games, including a clutch Game 4 home run. Lowell also doubled to lead off the 5th and scored Boston's second run of Game 4. Lowell went 1-for-3 with a double in both Game 1 and Game 2, and went 2-for-5 in Game 3 with a two-run single that gave the Red Sox a nice cushion. In what turned out to be a career-year for Lowell, it was not much of a shock to see how well he swung it in the playoffs.Though Lowell certainly had worthy credentials for the MVP honors, I can't help but think that Jonathan Papelbon was slightly more deserving, or at the least, worthy of co-MVP honors. Papelbon closed out three of the four Red Sox wins, coming in during the 8th inning in all three. Furthermore, two of his saves came in one-run games with no margin for error, and twice he mowed through Helton, Atkins, and Hawpe to end games. From the way the Red Sox were celebrating, I'm guessing they hardly cared. Everyone on the roster contributed to the team's win, and they should be proud of their accomplishments, putting individual awards aside.

I actually expected it to be Papelbon, because he was huge in the series, but when it turned out to be Lowell I got all teary, because he's been huge all year long, and I already thought he was awesome after last year. Somebody give that man a contract. If the Red Sox can afford to pay Edgar Renteria to play for the Braves next year, they can afford to give Lowell the contract he wants in order to get a couple more years out of him (and keep him out of New York).

Paps was brilliant, but game 1 was a blow out and in game 2, Okajima really got the save. Can a guy who gets 2 saves be the MVP?

I didn't think Mike Lowell played any better then the rest of the players. In fact, I didn't really think any of the players, except Papelbon really stood out. They all had great performances.
While you can't win without runs, you certainly can't win without your closer. All of us here were very surprised Papelbon didn't make it.

The award has been given, why ruin it for the person who got it by second guessing people in the sport?
Papelbon will get his chance, Lowell won it. Who wants controversy NOW. All the TEAM did good. We should be celebrating, not whining about who got MVP.
Your subjectivity detracts from your writing.

I love Papelbon, but the award went to the right guy. Sure, Pap saved three games in the WS, but Mike was there for every at-bat of every game during the year. He continued to dominate in the post season by batting .400! Over 160+ of those earlier games, and I would have been damn tired. During the year...over .320 and 120 RBI for Mike. Overall season, this a team thing anyway. As for the MVP, there was no comparison. RE-SIGN Lowell for sure! Then laugh as AROD runs away somewhere else so he doesn't feel so left out in the cold!

Mikey Lowell was the right man to get the MVP. He's also the MVP for the team this season. Nobody deserves it more than him. He's more than proved himself to this organization. Hopefully they give Mikey the years he wants and also deserves. We love ya Mikey, and want you to stay here, just like you want to also.

bugs swarm the field
out of the blue a story pops up about the other teams pitcher and meds
yup lot of un explained what ifs in these games did they help
guess the series can be bought and paid for with high priced inported players
anyway congradulations boston in three years no one but boston and colorado will remember who went to the series anyway

MVP should have been Jason Veritek. He called all the right plays. Without him the Sox wouldn't be the winning team that they are!

I thought Papelbon was deserving as well with 4-saves. How about young Ellsbury for MVP too? When he got in the line up, man did he make things happen, offensively and defensively! Do you think the Sox would've made it to the WS with Crisp in the line up after being down 3-1 in the ALCS? Where would the Sox be without Ellsbury's contributions in the WS? Perhaps it should've gone 3-ways like the Dodgers in 1981.

Subtract Papelbon and the series is still goin on and tied at 2. They don't win it without his performance. He was unhittable.

MVP is a dumb award anyway especially in a playoff Series where only a max of 7 games can be played. That being said a "lights out" closer being necessary to win is one of the biggest baseball myths. In reality Starting pitching, clutch hitting and middle relief is more important than a closer in a short Series.

After game 3, I couldn't decide who was the MVP because there were so many candidates that it was too close. I knew that Game 4 would decide who would be the MVP by whoever had the best game. After Mike Lowell, who I was already considering one of the strongest candidates, hit his double then scored with that great slide, I went online and voted for him. The homer was icing on the cake. His solid defense was also a factor.
