Scott Linehan's State of Mind Displayed in Emoticons: :-(

For as much trash as I (and Rams fans, and members of the local and national media) have talked about the Rams this year, I really do feel bad for Scott Linehan.

It's impossible to believe that Linehan, who improved the Rams to 8-8 last year, is as bad of a coach as the Rams' 0-8 record might indicate. Every significant Ram has dealt with injuries (along with every less significant player) and the players, when able to step on the field, have far from given it their all. He cannot overcome the ambivalence of 53 men (not to mention fate). He cares ... maybe too much.
"The experience has been . . . I learned a lot about myself," he said during his Monday news conference. "You never want to feel like this ever again. Whatever you can do to avoid it is worth the trouble."
...
"I don't do a lot of consoling myself," he said. "To be honest with you, I do a lot more of the other."
...
"One day, hopefully in the near future, in about eight games, I can go back and say that was a trying experience and I made it through this thing all right."
Linehan also admits that he doesn't leave the house very much, choosing instead to take solace in his family. Not quite the glamour you expect of life in the NFL, eh?
