Welcome to another successful installment of Five Questions with an Enemy Blogger, where each week, via email, I will be exchanging hot questions and [sometimes] answers with a rival blogger about their team and the upcoming matchup. This week I sat down with Jamie Kiefer of Atop the Crow's Nest, a Most Valuable Network column that covers the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Dan Benton: "Although he was a little shaky last week, Jeff Garcia has played very good football this year. Has he been everything Bucs fans had hoped for, or do they still miss Chris Simms?"
Jamie Kiefer: "Jeff Garcia has been basically everything the Bucs fans had hoped for. You can't go wrong with a guy who had zero interceptions in the first seven weeks of the season. Chris Simms appeared to be the franchise quarterback, but due to a shaky beginning of the season last year, and his injury, he hasn't really had the chance to prove himself. I feel bad for him with all that he's been through, but I can't ignore what Garcia has done for the Bucs. The first seven weeks he had a passer rating over 100. If Garcia sticks around for the next few years, Chris Simms will be a distant memory."
Benton: "The casual NFL fan may not realize this, but Tampa Bay has given up the third fewest points in the NFC. What is it about their defense that has been so dominating?"
Jamie: "Cato June has been a huge addition for the Bucs D. Always a force in Indianapolis, June is 4th on the team in tackles. We can also thank rookie wonders Tanard Jackson and Gaines Adams, who have been doing great, considering their rookie status. Also, the emergence of Barret Ruud, who has been nothing short of fantastic. But there are also the veterans who continue to live up to expectations. Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and Greg Spires -- they all look as good as new."Benton: "Looking ahead to Sunday, what concerns you most about the Arizona Cardinals?"
Jamie: "Quite simply, their defense. Just like few people know about the Bucs stingy defense, few people know about the Cards stingy defense. Sure they've allowed over 20 points in 6 of 7 games this year, but they're much better than that. Some of their defensive players are downright scary! They're ranked 6th in the league in interceptions (a stat that didn't use to scare Bucs fans but now does), and they're ranked 13th in sacks. Karlos Dansby, Gerald Hayes, and Adrian Wilson are guys that could cause nightmares for us Buc fans."Benton: "If you could pick one player off the Cardinals and add them to the Bucs roster, who would it be and why?"
Jamie: "At this point, I would have to go for Edgerrin James. With Carnell Williams and Michael Pittman out, the Bucs have no running game. I appreciate what Earnest Graham has done, but he can't carry the load forever. James hasn't put up the numbers he did in Indianapolis, but I still respect him, and know how beneficial he would be to the Bucs offense."Benton: "Prediction time! Who wins, and what's the score?"
Jamie: "I don't like guessing the score, but since you asked nicely I'll give it a shot. It should be a good defensive battle.A special thanks to Jamie Kiefer for taking the time for the second week in a row.
